I am looking for stable music production software. I found musix on the GNU website and am considering downloading it. Are there better distros or software packages available for Linux?

You do know that 99% of VSTs/music library/plugin/effects/virtual instruments don't work on Linux, right ?
Anyway, Musix inludes Ardour which is probably the best music production software for Linux so it should be ok.

use GNU/Linux/bitwig/audacity

There's been a lot of work done to get Windows only vsts working on Linux in the past couple of years, mostly thanks to bitwig.

Ardour, LMMS, bitwig (costs) Daw wise, there's a few really good standalone synths and drum machines too.
You can run flstudio and ableton in wine iirc

Sounds like music production on linux might be a pain in the ass but... It is free software so can't complain. Right?
>>/mu/ /prod/
please not here

Unironically get a Mac.
bitwig and renoise are the best. ardour is ok if u want to track irl instruments. i thought it looked super ugly tho.

In his defence when it comes to computers /prod/ is mostly 15 year old flstudio users and people who consider themselves hardware snobs because they own a microkorg

Depends on how you plan to make your music. Audacity has been enough for recording, mixing and mastering for me. If you need any effects, amp simulators etc., toss them into JACK rack or Rakarrack.

Nice.
I wonder how well heavy VSTs CPU wise run : vst bridges on github seem to go through wine to make them work.

Musix is dead.

No money.

Is there a better distro you can recommend?
>>61438644
LMMS is pretty good

Import/modify/produce instrumentals
Record audio
Mix and master
Thank you for the input! I definitely will be trying these programs soon. I downloaded most of them.
I bought Ableton Live Suite a few years ago and still use it a bit. Since I've moved full time to linux haven't been though. Is there a way to get at least 90% of the performance it had on windows?
