You cannot compare metasploit with a knife, because a knife can be used for something totally else. You should compare metasploit with a gun for example. You could use a gun on a shooting range (pentesting) but you could also use it to shoot someone (hacking someone's site without permission). It is more tempting to hack someone illegally when you already know how to hack someone (legally).
