When the lawyers got your IP from the Peerlist, they assume you also upload, go to your ISP and court and ask for your IP, in 100% of the cases they just give them because they basically have no idea. This works because in germany you as the owner of a broadband connection are in charge, that's also why you don't see real completely free wifi networks in public, unlike in the rest of the world.

Those lawyers, or the only one left in the business "Waldorf Frommer" then proceed to send you a letter of over 10 pages with basically "Hello, you downloaded X, here's IP, you also uploaded it, it's illegal, pay €900 or we go court, court is expenive, please pay. Did we mention you should pay?"

Most people will, out of panic, just pay the 900€. It was estimated that around 2010, over a million of those letters were sent in germany alone.

But if you do the above mentionen Unterlassungserklärung, you should be fine. Altough you have to be extremely careful what to write to them so they don't fuck you. Personally I had a lawyer that wrote it for me, never heard of those idiots ever since so I should be fine
