Everything is becoming free

>pictures
>art
>music
>code
>television
>film
>literature

It is all slowly becoming free in it's internet form.

What does this mean?
>>
>>61417380
duh, digital things can be copied and distributed bascially for free. It's not a physical medium that exists outside of the digital realm.

However anything in the physical world still costs, the computer you use to access the digital. Printing costs money, too.

The problem is, real artists don't care about money. They just do what they do because they want to do it. Of course the need money to live but in history artists got either a rich sponsor, got money by live performance or the sold real physical things. It was wrong to begin with to think one could be rich or make a living with things that don't exist, the web is not a physical thing. Wires and Computers might be but then again, those cost something.
>>
because you are the product

>>
>>61417380
Wow dude it's like we used to have like physical goods that needed the same amount of matter to be recreated and now like we have these things that can be copied unlimitedly for free but we can't touch them because they don't exist in a way so like the whole world is changing so drastically dude it's like definitions need to be updated constantly you know
>>
>>61417663
Duuuuuude
>>
It's easier to not pay with money, and all these companies are trying to make it as easy for you to make them a profit.
>>
>>61417380
Hardly. Creating anything takes money, and most people creating things expect to at least break even on it.
And none of those things are becoming free in "internet form"
>Pictures
Still meant to be bought and licensed from photographers. Your shitty memes don't count.
>Art
Art is still either sold, commissioned, or produced for free as a labor of love. Only thing that's changed is that distribution is cheaper.
>Music
Music is free if you're willing to listen to ads, which means it's not actually free
>Code
I have no idea what you mean by code being free.
>Television
I imagine you mean YouTube videos? You're either watching ads or paying a subscription.
>Film
Same as above
>Literature
Same as Art.
>But what about muh AdBlock/piracy?
Yeah, no, yeah, good point.
>Everything is becoming free! You just have to steal it!
>>
>>61417711
>Television, films, literature arent free
Bait
>>
>>61417711
>I have no idea what you mean by code being free.
Obviously open source you dip. Besides, he clearly meant free as in free beer, viewing ads isn't literally the same as paying money.
>>
>>61417380
I was really hoping you meant free as in freedom at first.

Television as we know might not be free but there are youtube channels which are free after an ad which can entertain you as much as television can. There are also short films that are free.

Literature as we know it is not free yet there are vast amounts of information available for reading online for free.
>>
>>61417380
But when will we be free?
>>
>>61418321
ur mom is tho
>>

Youtube doesn't have ads, moron.

Nice symbolism
>>
>>61418379
It does, retardo. Not everyone has ublock/adblock installed. There's ads at the beginning of the videos and there's also ads between videos if you're watching videos from some playlist. 90% of users are normies who listen to music on Youtube, so get your head out of your ass.

hahahahaha
>>
>>61417380

It means that artists (and e-clebs) will make money through selling physical trinkets and such, tours or cons, doing paid advertising and getting sponsorship and patronage.

Given the general fall in online ad rates and YoutTube ad disaster, it comes even sooner.
>>
>>61417380
>What does this mean?
1. DRM is literally against the nature of computers. It's an impossible fight.
2. As a result everything is moving to a service model.
>>
>>pictures
Even toddlers can draw, it was always free.

>>art
I can shit on a sheet and say it's a form of art, it's subjective. It was always free.

>>music
99% of copyright infringements are due to music downloads, this is plain bullshit, soundcloud is irrelevant.

>>code
Coding started as an open system in the first place.

>>television
Nah.

>>film
Unless you're talking about hindi amateur porn, movies aren't free.

>>literature
Literally what? eBooks aren't free.

Remember, if someone is offering something for free, it means they are making money from you in a way or another. YouTube and the ads is just a blatant example, you lose your right to privacy in exchange for watching autistic screaming children in HD.
>>
>>61417380
>What does this mean?
It means that either less effort is put into creating what you mentioned in average or that you are funding data mining / advert companies when you consume the free things.
>>
>>61418923
>the concept of private property should be adhered to
this is the real kek

>>

>>

You can also obtain the physical equivalent of all those things for free.
>>
>>61419728
What's your point?
>>
>>61418502
The red is clearly blood.
>>
>>61418321
When (and if) space travel becomes viable. This planet is too small and is effectively owned by a handful of countries. Maybe they'll downsize for some reason and you'll be able to find freedom on Earth, but I wouldn't count on it without some really disruptive technology.

>Even toddlers can draw, it was always free.
>I can shit on a sheet and say it's a form of art, it's subjective. It was always free.

>>61418913
>implying you can redistribute wealth without an overarching government
government != state, and distributed government systems are possible, such as networks of communes
>implying if you do this voluntarily, this is communism
the only prerequisite to Communism is the liberation of the proletariat, the abolition of private property and the withering away of the state (however all flow from the first thing) by revolutionising the material conditions that give rise to it
>implying anarcho-communism isn't just anarcho-capitalism waiting to happen
anarcho-capitalism relies on the proletariat being exploited and the existence of private property, so no.

The only improvement I've seen is old literature having copyright expire.
I can go out and buy a physical book for 50 cents
A DVD for a dollar
A CD for 75 cents
Art is everywhere

Someone still has to make it so it's not really free. It's only free for you because you didn't pay for it.

What it means for society and economy is probably alot more direct supporting of content creators based on their fan bases and the quality of their work through patreon and other similar platforms. One of the few things I agree with commies about is that there's so much fat that needs to be trimmed from most industries. I'd rather directly pay an artist for their work because I appreciate it than have them work for a network and get indirectly paid by an advertising agency based on some arbitrary metric like clicks or engagement. Direct support is more efficent and allows much more content to be created. Just remember to support the creators that you value the most.

>Someone still has to make it so it's not really free.
People can do it in their free time. Because they enjoy it. This applies more to some things than others ofc. Movies and games take huge budgets.

But yeah, direct support with free distribution is the best way of supporting everything digital.

especially in kpop, the idols need to be freed of the leeches that are their companies. They could make 100x the money if they were allowed to have a pateron.

>>61422140

>>

>It still takes resources and labor to produce.

>resources
Very little for many things. Text just needs a laptop, photos, music, online videos and art just requires some basic gear that starts under $1k. But they aren't a production cost when someone buys them because they really like that thing.

Big movies however, take a tremendous amount of resources.

It's not really labor when you do something for recreation.

I wonder if we will ever have artists that go down through history again.
It was one thing back when there were so few painters and they did such incredible work.
Now on the other hand everyone has too much time on their hands and there's such an overabundance of artwork that people become generally apathetic to the stuff which ages ago would be considered phenomenal.

>u are le product
>hurr this lol

I am consuming media or other internet services.
I am "paying" by watching adverts.
The product is the media. Me watching the media is the payment. The consumer can in no way be considered the product.

Of course the consumer and its payment is the part of every revenue model which includes the product. This is also is true when I sell you a chewing gum for money in which case the chewing gum is the product, not the consumer or the money.
>>
>>61424360
The videos you choose to watch and the items you choose to look at will influence the kinds of ads that you see, companies might purchase your browsing habits in order to learn how to better market to you specifically (through an automated system of course) or to market to people similar to you, just like how American ISPs can sell their customers browsing data in bulk to marketing companies, so that they can better jew about the place.
>>
>>61424442
>>61424360
Another good example would be if your local gas station or supermarket uses a loyalty card system, you get better deals but you also sign up to let them track all your purchases, generating more marketing data and showing them at which times they should have which items available or which prices they should offer at which times.
>>
>>61424342
no. which is why I'd like to see to it that the surplus produced by my labor is socially necessary, instead of going into the pockets of my "employers" and bankers so they can cause yet another economic disaster caused by mass defaults of hedge funds, which then is taxed by the government to compensate using another foreign war to gain profit. This is a cycle that can end, if you only read the book.

Some other people do pay though. That's why it get produced and I get to enjoy it.

I'll start paying when I've explored all of the worthwhile content and the production rate is lower than my consumption rate. I don't see this happening though since there is so much existing content I haven't explored.
