>SP is so backed up on orders, the new Carbon set is coming out 2018

Well, I guess I don't need that Pulse set rerun ever. SA profile is crap too from what I hear, I'm not jealous or anything. Ok, I fucking want that Pulse set.
>>
anyone here use green?
>>
>>61400895
if we're lucky, the chinks over at Maxkey will make a set
>>
>>61401072
Thank fuck someone finally decided to end SP's monopoly on SA. Supposedly they're actually changing their molds to fix things like "SHIF T" too.

If they actually start making novelties, then I'll start buying.
>>
>>61401107
I wish the chink companies making DSA would be more open to western group buys too. Ripoff carbon is nice and all, but I want original stuff for cheaper and more reliably, plus dyesub PBT in any colour scheme.

What is the closest to silent switch cherry or cloned? I need something to plug into my laptop because I can't stand the terrible keyboard on the cheapo laptop work gives.
>Already bought a cheapo monitor using VGA to make my life easier.
>>
>>61402021
NPKC is decent, sometimes they have small little inconsistencies in the legends, but it's minuscule compared to other brands.

You really should get something in Cherry profile though. OEM is ok, but Cherry feels that much better.
>>
>>61402626
Fuck, I just spent so much time searching through ali. Didn't know about oem vs cherry shit. I just want a nice set of white on black pbt caps. 95% of what I see is a bunch of funky color schemes. Help a brother out? Don't wanna spend a ton.
>>
>>61402529
Cherry Silent Reds and Blacks have silencers built into the actual stem of the switch that make them near silent. Unfortunately, it's the only switch of its kind. You could always look into those Silenco clips, or O-rings, or those pads that work better than O-rings.
>>
>>61402641
Here you go famalam, best blank keycaps you can buy:

https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/collections/keycaps/products/enjoypbt-blank-keycaps-117keys
>>
>>61402678
I don't want blanks, though.
>>
>>61402641
Oh, don't know why I thought black was "blank".

If you want legends, there's this:
https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/collections/keycaps/products/enjoypbt-keycaps-dye-subbed-keycap-set-117keys
>>
>>61402641
this is your only option for high quality white on black since you can't dye sub white on black (well you can do reverse dye sub but no company is really doing that yet except with the carbon colorway). otherwise if you go with pad printed keycaps i suggest going with the side print so you don't have to touch the legends (you can physically feel them and they'll wear out after a while)

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mechanical-keyboard-pbt-keyboarded-a-large-black-keyboard-keyboarded/32740037614.html
>>
>>61402772
Damn, that looks great and the price is right!

It says in the link that they're doubleshot, so doesn't that mean the legends shouldn't fade?

If you want something else that isn't cherry try Matias quiet click as they are much more tactile then cherry switches, while being quieter then a rubber dome since they're dampened on both the up and down stroke. If you have the money you can get silenced topres. GMK also makes silencing clips that go on any cherry switch

I know the i-500 is highly praised for its $20 price point. I have never heard of the i-850 but if they are still using outemus there's always the james donkey instead with gaterons. If the i850 is also using gaterons, then shit, easterntimestech might just be the next meme.

Question didn't get answered last thread so I'll ask again.
How is the tactile bump on Outemu purples compared to Zealios and MX brown/clear?
>>
>>61407269
That question did get answered.

All of these chinkshit boards are more cringy than a $10 dell rubberdome.

If you barely have enough disposable income to purchase a $70 shit mech, you should just stay away from expensive keyboards of all things until you can actually afford a decent one.

It's a stupid meme to fall for if you are living in poverty

Zero. There are ZERO sets with 5.5u spacebars, at least you can manage to maybe get a DSA set with a 6.5u spacebar.

You're fucked mate.
>>
>>61407269
I have no idea myself, so it's gonna have to be off of second-hand remarks. People say that its bump is between Clear and Zealios, and they actuate longer than Zealios so you have to press them deeper before you get to the bump. If you get them with the solder on the pins, supposedly those are the new molds, but I'm not too sure Outemu fixed their consistency issue.

If you really want a medium tactile switch, just buy Clears and make them ErgoClears by buying Black springs, or buy MOD-Ms that have a bigger bump than them all.
>>
>>61408706
Fill out the template like everyone else, I have no idea if you want a 100% or 40%.
>>
>>61411392
Interesting, I was hoping I could cheap out of MODs/Zealios and get the purples.
I ordered a switch tester with a bunch of tactile switches, I'm trying to figure out my favorite tactile switch. I suppose the best test is to just try it out myself in the end.

>>
Hey guys, I'm stuck with a K95 reds at the moment, any suggestions on good keycaps?
>>
>>61409704
They were good back in the day when there weren't many other options, but now they're just overpriced. $170 for a keyboard without full aluminum construction, cheap ABS keycaps, non-removable cable, and non-programmability (I think, last time I checked), is a bad deal when you have Chinese customs or even Cooler Master making better way stuff. It's a keyboard stuck in 2010.

And DAS doesn't care, they keep making new boards with their crappy new Gamma switches, so it looks like not much is gonna change.
>>
>>61409854
James Donkey 619 might be your only option. And don't worry, Gateron Blacks are better than Cherry Blacks anyway.
>>
>>61411469
Get these in black, because you're gonna be stuck with that shitty 6.5u spacebar forever.

That's a weird area in budget where you can't get the good stuff, and it's more than the cheaper stuff, especially if you want full size and not TKL.

The only other budget board I can think of that's full size for that price is the James Donkey 619. If you end up using the same keyboard for such a long time, why not just make your budget $100 and get something like a Ducky?

>Using an incomplete set of kana keycaps
This is the worst kind of ricing.
>>
>>61413141
Yea, same with Filco, Varmilo, and Leopold boards. I know people that have used Filco in particular without any issues for years. If you really want absolute toughness, you'd get a Chinese custom with an aluminum case, but I don't know where to get any 100% aluminum cases.

Anything that uses Cherry or Gateron switches is gonna last for more than 14 years. And if you really run into an issue, it's really easy to replace a broken switch.
>>
>>61413141
The problem with Ducky keyboards is that they are soo good they never go on sale. Usually you have to pre order them months in advance or else you're left with limited stock. The worst part is that since they are so good they raised the prices on some of their models, but I think its still worth it.
>>
>>61413141
I should've added to make sure you get PBT keycaps too, those will last you over time. ABS keycaps start to really wear after a couple years, PBT are oil-resistant and hardly ever wear.

Uhm holy shit, one of my local mech stores told me that they just imported the Plum 84, EXCEPT it's not Topre clone but actually fucking Gateron switches, which pretty much fixed my one and only complaint about that board.
I'm stoked, you guys.
>>
ISO, 60%, Bluetooth wireless. Any linear switch.

Do I have any options outside of a custom board? I'd like something compact, so I'd rather not use one of those cumbersome USB-to-Bluetooth adapters. I've been there before, I used one with my Pok3r and it was kinda crap.

Not bothered if it means spending big money, I just want something that works for me.
>>
>>61413727
Thot looks a lot like the choc mini. Like even the keycaps are identical. Why not get one of those since they even come with cherry switches
>>
>>61413818

That limits your options to customs. If you drop that then get the Anne Pro or RK61
>>
Is it true that newer Duckys have shitty leds and the keycaps have black spots
>>
>>61413826
>>61413840
>>61413844

I saw the Minila Air, but it's been out of stock for a bit and I don't think I fancy going for a used board. Not sure on continuing stock for it.

I'll keep an eye on stock, and then maybe price up a custom and see what happens. I really don't wanna drop ISO, but I use UK-ISO so it's not the end of the world.

Cheers folks
>>
>>61413856
I know that the shine 3 and 4 had those problems back then, but I never heard of those issues ever since the shine 5 fixed them. It could be the new PBT keycaps have some warping problems.
>>
how much louder is buckling spring compared to cherry mx blue?
>>
>>61413889
The only other choice would be to get a jap HHKB with bluetooth
http://www.pfu.fujitsu.com/direct/hhkb/detail_hhkb-pro-bt-jp-btusba.html
>>
>>61413914
About twice as loud. I think it was like 67 db for BS and 59 for blues. Then again it also depends on the keycaps and the construction of the keyboard since with MX switched the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuation mechanism, unlike buckling springs

Hey I have one of those. One of the quirks of this keyboard is that since the internals are made from steel when you cool the keyboard really fast it starts creaking once the steel contracts and pulls the plastic case with it. I've had if for about a year and never noticed until one hot summer night when the temperature inside my house was 92° and I cranked the AC all the way down to 62° right before I went to bed. The keyboard was directly underneath it so it must have been a rapid change. It creaked so loud it actually woke me up and scared the shit out of me.

I want a nice keyboard for work but I don't really trust my coworkers. Do you guys just leave your keyboard on the desk all day long or bring it home everyday?
>>
>>61417236
You have two options.

1. Buy a keyboard that's a TKL or 100% with a solid aluminum block for the case. Then they won't even be able to pick it off your desk.

2. Buy something small like an Anne Pro to either hide or take home.

Don't you have drawers or cabinets with locks on them? That's what I would do if I'm afraid of my stuff getting stolen. People usually don't steal keyboards, because they usually assume that they're only worth $15 max, even when you show up with a Korean custom with SP keycaps.

Option 1 costs a lot because aluminum and CNC milling ain't cheap. There's usually a bunch of different 75% cases on Geekhack in their groupbuys, but you could try looking for cases on Aliexpress or Taobao.

You could combine both options and get a Poker with an custom aluminum case because aluminum 60% cases are everywhere. There's also the KBD75 that comes with aluminum, the Filco also has more common cases for their 75%, and the AMJ96 is full aluminum, though that's gonna take a couple months before they can be bought again.

Then there's Massdrop, the Kira96 will supposedly aluminum, and then there's this fucking monster that probably is exactly what you're looking for, but it probably will never drop again:
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ikbc-full-size-rgb-mechanical-keyboard

Nevermind, I actually found the full sized aluminum board that weighs over 5 fucking pounds: https://www.amazon.com/iKBC-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-Aluminum/dp/B06WD8YY92/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495120699&sr=8-1&keywords=mf108&th=1

aluminium keyboards are expensive and more expensive looking and they're not too heavy to steal at all. get something that's inconspicuous and that isn't too expensive to replace if it does get stolen like an anne pro or a magicforce 68 or one of those $30-40 tkl keyboards or any plain-looking ~$100 keyboard

>>61418071
There are keyboards with a bent stainless steel plate/case on Aliexpress and Taobao, get one of those, a big block of stainless and weld the two together.

All mechanical keyboards are loud since the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism. If you want silent then get a matias qc keyboard since those are tactile, while still more silent then a rubber dome. Plus they look like old apple keyboards so I doubt anyone would steel them.

So I'm looking at the local webshops and I'm considering buying the Ducky Shine 5.

https://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/datorer_och_tillbehor/229267-ducky_shine_5_rgb#overview

Does /mkg/ approve of said keyboard?

It's $200 so I don't want to buy it if there's something seriously wrong with it that I'm not aware of. The only thing that stands out so far is the retarded placement of a FN key where the MENU key should be - but it's apparently possible to use the DIP switches to use the wintendo key as a FN key and actually have that rather important context menu key (I don't get why I would have to do this, how would you get that menu without the key? use the mouse and left-click?)
>>
A build-related question.

So I've got my first mechanical KB (Aukey KM-G4, but I think it's irrelevant for my issue).
One of the keys has a hard time working, it barely recognizes a press unless I push the switch with its mechanism a bit to the left.

Tore the thing apart, solder seems to be fine.

What do (i aint refunding)
>>
>>61420444
>All mechanical keyboards are loud

My HyperX Allow with brown switches and blue o-rings isn't loud at all, it's actually rather quiet compared to most keyboards. It was a bit loud when bottoming out the keys without the o-rings - not that it's a big problem anymore, these days I'm used to the tactile bump I don't do that anyway.

The shine 5 has been discontinued so if you find one then get it since its the last good shine keyboard Ducky has ever made. Its a overpriced since that keyboard should sell for 150 bucks. Now the keyboard is also partially programmable, including the dip switched on the back, so it is possible to so stuff like switching ctrl and caps lock. This is what the dip switched can allow you to have for the bottom layout
>>
>>61422660
Thanks. It's great to see that I can use the dips to get the menu key.

As for the price, if it should be selling for $150 then $200 is probably a reasonable price here. It really is more expensive for everything computer-related in this part of the fascist union due to taxes and EU regulations and so on.

There seems to be 4 of these left at that store, so I guess I'll be grabbing one of them.

Out of curiosity, what makes this one the last good keyboard they've made? What's wrong with the newer ones? Did they become too big and decide to maximize profits by screwing their customers?

anybody else have a problem with these fucking things? corsairs my keyboard k65 or someshit, it turns into if i sit my arm, pic related, becaue of my stupid big ass fat chair and- its from- reaching back and forth from my mouse, needing to type in games. see how the space bar is lower on my right side, where my hand is half on it?

these fuckign corsair shitty mechanical keybaords, break on the side if you hit it on that sidetoo much for too long. this shouldnt be that big of a problem, but the thing does that, then the key comes unhooked from the board and when you press it it just lifts up the other side and doenst press the key and its fucked up.

Anyone have this problem? and anyone know of a keyboard that doesnt do this shit? Also example, look at your picture, the space bar -is raised up on the right side. like my new replacement is too, as well, and as mine came new. I thought the bar didnt seem too... stable
idk what to say they suck so anyone got an idea of one that maybe uses something besdies what stupid corsair puts under their space bars

I've only been able to test switches on keyboards displayed in stores, and the only mechanical keyboards in any store in 100 km radius are razers and logitechs. So... razer green feels really nice, razer orange is not nice, logitech is awful.
So, from what I've read, probably MX blue will be the closest?

>Layout
USA ANSI QWERTY.

65% would be ideal.
75% is also good.
Tenkeyless is a bit too big, 60% would be good if it had arrows (I use them too much to keep them on a layer.)
Also, must be at least somewhat programmable.

>Backlight
Don't care either way

>Previous/current keyboards
Rubber domes only.

Also, I can solder (somewhat), so it can be a kit, as long as the total price of all components, including keycaps, isn't much higher than 200 euros.
Also, I'd prefer something I can find at least semi-easily, without having to wait 3 years for it to ship.
And lastly, alloy case > plastic case, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Think these would look nice on the Magicforce 68? I'm looking for some nice, affordable Dolch keycaps.
>>

Do not get Razer or Steelseries, though I think Steelseries might actually be decent. If you're going to spend $150, just get a Ducky One or Ducky Shine.

Also look at Varmilo and Filco.

Anyone got that one lad's setup who puts a towel underneath his keyboard? I recently remembered about that method to dampen the sound and want to mimic it since his looked fresh as fuck.
>>
>>61434855
just put a towel under your keyboard, that's all there is to it. If you want it to look good use a towel that fits your boards colors, that's it
>>
>>61433346
>>61434729
It's quite good for that price but looks absolutely horrid with those orange feet.

Now buy a real keyboard instead of a Premium Japanese Rubber meme or a grid layout meme.
>>

Which one did you get?
>>
Am I understanding correctly that Mx Brown feels like a lighter Blue but without the audible feedback?
I have the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate, and I like the switches, but I hate everything else. It has the Razer "Green" switch, which I believe is an imitation of blues but with a lighter actuation force.
Will browns feel similar? I could always go with a Blue, but I play World of Warcraft, and sometimes hammering those buttons gets real loud, and wakes up sleeping people in my house.
>>
>>61435994
No. Browns are much less tactile than blues. If you want quiet blues, you're gonna have to get into switch modding, the closest are "jailhouse" blues (filler material put in between the halves of the slider to stop the click) or ergoclears with blue-weight springs.
>>
>>61434855
You mean the tripfag guy? "Fresh as fuck" isn't how I'd describe his shit.
>>
>>61436016
Or just get gateron browns.

Or matias quiets or something
>>
Two questions.

1. Where can I compare prices for hhkbs/realforces? I want to check if the assdrop ($180 for the jap realforce) is actually a good deal, but Amazon isn't very helpful.

2. Is it possible to find topre Japanese keycap sets without moonrunes? I like the layout but I don't to look like a pretentious weeb.
>>
>>61435608
I cancelled too and bought a TADA68 with the refund
>>
>>61436016
That sounds really cool, but too much work for me. I'm glad there's a mod scene going on, but right now I'm looking to just unbox something and then use it. Maybe swap keycaps but that's about all.
>>61436119
I will research those.
>>
>>61435942
I think it's called the 619.

What's /g/s opinion on IKBC Poker?
Would this be a good buy?

>>61436994
IKBC used to be the OEM for poker boards before they switched to Ducky. If you want an older poker board then go for it. The newer ones are more programmable and have a metal case so thats the only thing you're missing out on.

Well-priced and well-liked and relatively well-done. It's a lot of people's first 60% board.
Poker 2/Pro is fine but has plastic case.
Poker 3 has a metal case and more Fn layers but also more expensive.

Hey guys,

Two years ago, I found this Model M in a literal trash container. I knew this was something /g/ talked about sometimes, so I thought, might as well take it home and clean it.

I used it for a month to test it, but didn't really like the feel of the mechanism and the absence of a the modifier/"win"-key for which I had to reconfigure most WMs even to work nicely.

Some imortant facts you may notice:
-It is a belgian azerty, so not a standard layout
-It is missing a bunch of keycaps. I remember mailing a place /g/ recommended me who might ship me some, but they didn't answer me

My questions being
-Is it worth anything?
-If so, where should I sell it, ebay?

I'll post more pictures, one with the serial nb sticker as well.

>>61437570
A model M like that would sell for around 20-30 bucks. If you fix it up and bolt mod it you can easily sell for 100-150 bucks

>>61437657
Get a TKl with a numpad on a separate layer
>>
>>61437736
Thanks, I'm not that hand, and googling "bolt mod" made me unsure that I want to even attempt this. By "fixing it up" I assume you mean getting all keycaps in order, or is there something I'm missing? It's pretty solid, not much to "fix up".

I'd rather get a 96 key layout.

>>61437799
Old IBM keyboards have an issue where the plastic rivets will rot away and end up making the keyboard feel mushy and not tactile at all. The only way to fix them would be to bolt mod the keyboard. Its not that hard, but if you don't feel like doing all that work just sell it on ebay for 30 bucks

Tried out a set of greens recently. They're not impossible to type on, but going back to blues afterwards (like ~2 weeks later) was a relief.

They feel incredibly springy and well built, if that makes sense, like the stiffness also gives this feeling of quality that I don't think blues have, but it's really too stiff for reasonably daily use IMO.
