So, I can now buy literally the best general-purpose packet presser ON THE PLANET that will last forever, for less than $200? Holy shit yes. It will last forever and all these insane high quality parts can be repurposed. My grandchildren will be pressing their shit on Mars with this thing.
>>
>>61383080
tbqh they might a well give it away for free, they'll make the money back on juice subscriptions
>>
>>61383107
The machine that crushed bags of vegetable stuff into a glass. And you could only use the company's specific packs, which cost 5-7 dollars each. And the press itself cost like 800 originally, down to 400 and now down to 200. And it was always WI-Fi connected or it wouldn't work. And you could just squeeze the packs by hand and get the same result.
>>
>>61383139
i imagine the logistics of outsourcing the manufacturing to China, ditching Wi-Fi / Bag DRM shit and selling the machine for dirt cheap would be 100x better than trying to prey off weird rich upper class white people

they sell a machine.
a machine that compresses stuff.
like, there are a ton of cheap machines that can compress stuff
but this one is special
and also they sell BAGS OF FRUIT LEFTOVERS from some industrial juice factory
and they attach some ID to these fucking bags

else you get DRM'd and the machine becomes a brick

Communism has never been tried btw.
>>
>>61393219
>There are enough idiots buying these things so that the company hasn't gone under yet, which is sad.
Wrong. There was enough money from investors that the company hasn't gone under yet. There aren't enough idiots buying these things which is why they have cut the prices of the machine.
The machine is a one off loss for them. They lose money on it, but the juice packets you NEED TO USE with it (unless you mod it) are probably sold at 500-600% profit, if they can lock you in for a year they likely recover the cost of the machine.

Why do you need such a well machined block of aluminum for a fucking machine that squeezes a bag? Why not just use cast alloys? This is the kind of shit that happens when you let engineers design a product without supervision.
>>
>>61383080

But the IoT is great. I love being able to watch people through their unsecured cameras on Shodan all evening at work.
>>
>>61398664

Hey, here's a fucking crazy idea.

What if I just buy a fucking juicer for 20-40 bucks, then buy some fucking fresh fruit to juice? I mean what the actual fuck is the point of this thing? Who the fuck thought this was a good idea?

>expensive as fuck
>more hassle than using a regular ol' juicer
>only works with the name brand packages, so you can't juice your fresh produce you bought from the grocer
>need wifi and a smartphone to operate it

Someone please explain this to me. It hurts my brain.
>>
>>61391503

We're in a bubble currently + there are a lot of stunningly incompetent venture capital groups that have more money than brains. It doesn't help when you have bloated marketing departments and brainless middle management types all shouting at you to follow what everyone else is doing uncritically.

>>
>>61399329
From a pitch standpoint, the machine is essential for the whole thing to work. You're selling the machine, the juice packs, the distribution service for said juice packs, and the end user needs all three to get their half cup of juice. So the end user is paying for the juicer, and in order to use the juicer they need to buy your juice bags which are useless at the end of the week.
It's like an auto dealership selling the cars, the gas, and the cars are made so they burn a full a tank by the end of the week.

>>61393252
Subtract which integer from the QR code? Does the network stack chip also include a way to guess the current timestamp from thin air without connecting to a NTP server? Also, could it guess from the contents of the QR code if it's registered in the Juicero database and not previously used?
>>
>>61399433
It actually makes a kind of sense in places like an office or company.

If you provide a normal juicer/blender to your office staff to make fresh juice you just know that a bunch of people won't clean it after they use it and others won't use it because they'll have to clean it.
With something that doesn't require cleaning you will actually get more staff using it.

The problem is that this particular device is stupidly (cheap, now) for what it is and the subscription service of $5-7 per HALF GLASS of juice is ridiculous.
>>
>>61391503
I remember seeing articles about how millennials, or just people over time, have been losing grip strength.
>>
>>61399791
I think what he means is that you could put a QR code on the packet with the expiry date and then the device could check the expiry date vs the internal clock to determine if it is past without an Internet connection.

But we all know it's doing more than that. The QR codes are probably multi dataset so they can check if people are re-using codes to make the juicer squeeze non-Juicero packets.

They only use money that they are comfortable losing. It's high risk, high reward. The idea behind venture capitalism is you invest in something unproven in hopes that it takes off and becomes popular. If you keep trying you'll eventually find something that makes a good profit. Even if you don't, a venture capitalist has their real income elsewhere.

I picked a bunch of analog electronics and microelectronics electives because I really like soldering, and fucking around with oscopes, but it was literally all just for fun because I ended up doing web development. The most important class I took for my job was an optional OOP class with Java, since otherwise the only languages I would have had experience with would have been LC-3 (i.e. fake) Assembly and C/Embedded C. The Java class was enough for me to get an idea for what the fuck objects and methods and all that stuff is. Now I primarily do Node.js and HTML/CSS, but I've had to touch a few legacy Java apps too and they were all god awful (((Enterprise))) piles of shit. We also do a lot of Docker/Kubernetes, MongoDB, Apache, and I've done some PHP fuckery on the side too. We used to focus our client code in angularJS, but we're moving it to angular4 and hopefully even further in the future one of the newer versions of JavaScript will be good enough that we can just drop the angular frameworks completely.

Not that angular frameworks are bad, they're pretty neat and that's why we use them, but sometimes you feel bad about forcing the user to download angular.js when they visit your site and everybody wants to reduce the amount of shit that users have to actually download.

School was good for problem solving, math, and giving me skills that I can use for a self-gratifying tinkering hobby at home, but really everything I use at my job I learned at my job.
