Partial boycott:

I don't think I avoid any brands at all costs. That would be pretty autistic. I prefer certain things because I'm familiar with them, but that doesn't mean I won't try anything new. Sometimes you get a lemon and have to rma a part, but it doesn't mean that company is shit across the board.

Brand loyalty is retarded.
>>
Seagate

Any server Dell's produced in 2017.

Cheap rj45 crimp tools

I pretty much get to replace components in a large contracted datacenter for a very popular cloud provider, so I see a lot of hardware failure with 10's of thousands of servers to manage.

I cannot reiterate enough about Seagate. I don't think you could pay me to use a Seagate HDD at this point. I've seen entire lots have 50-60% failure rates.
>>
>>61382132

I second this, the $350 mobo I bought from them turned out to be flaky as shit and they literally owe me $20 from a rebate they never paid me.
>>
>>61382397
Their products are overpriced and often inferior to the competition. Rather than innovate they just bribe school districts and pay textbook publishers to recommend their shit.
>>
>>61382407
Obviously that doesn't mean you have to jump into every botnet. For example I'm not improving privacy for the sake of privacy - only if it comes with benefits. Like, no gapps saves battery life, ad blocking(including social buttons) improved page loading speed and performance. Etc. >>61382417
>>
Acer, HP (consumer line), Biostar

that's about it.
>>
>>61382419
it's having enough bad experiences with a company's products and services to just say no. It's perfectly normal to think, "well this company has been nothing but shit to me; I'm not going to give them money any more." As for me:

apple - features, compatibility
hp, compaq - build quality
seagate - reliability
nvidia - drivers and support
>>
>>61382417

Forgot to mention partial boycott of Amazon.

Also, brands I endorse:

Moto
Gigabyte
HP
Kobo
AMD
>>
>>61381826
Samsung, HP, Corsair PSUs
>>
>>61382513
Apple: Expensive and limited
HP: Low end laptops burn the gpu after only a year or two
Seagate: 3TB drive failures
Nvidia: Poor Linux drivers and support

Every manufacturer has problems eventually. Sometimes a design just doesn't work out, or you get a bad run. If you're consistently non-competitive though, then you'll run into the ground as your competition eats your lunch over and over again. Margins on tech are so tight that basically you get what you pay for.

Brand loyalty is retarded.
>>
>>61382500
Don't get me wrong, I'm running Ublock Origin on a strict profile; but to say that I expect someone to not know who I am as I write this is a non sequitur, in my mind. There is no such thing as total privacy on the internet, since the U.S. government controls the basic silicon components for all systems.
>>
Apple: Restricted ecosystem, far too overpriced
Seagate: Reliability in the years recent
HP: Just dogshit laptops, from function to build quality
Alienware: Need to explain?
Samsung (Phones mostly): major disagreeance on phone hardware and software design and optimization, along with pricing for said hardware/software
>>
>>61382825

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Nothing. I evaluate products on their build quality and technical specs/capabilities not who made them. Even brands that are typically really shitty can sometimes produce a golden turd.

On top of that sometimes good companies will have shakeups where leadership changes and all of a sudden there is a major decline in quality or vice-versa and historically shitty companies will get new management that cleans stuff up and tries to actually make the brand not shit.

of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

If only Razer were cheap like chinkshit. Instead they're usually $20 more than their competitors.

Meanwhile they're busy coming up with mouse DRM while every other mouse has onboard memory.

Overpriced, broken drivers, planned obsolescence

They used to have monopoly in graphics tablet market but fortunately that's no longer the case. Nowadays Cintiq alternatives are better than Wacom products.

Normally I would put Apple in this list but the iMac pro is the first product in a long time that makes me think they're actually paying attention to computers again instead of just focusing on the iPhone. Will reserve a spot for Apple and wait to see if they take it further with the next iteration of MacBook.

Samsung is a full-on corporate meat-grinder for fresh graduates who dont know any better. In samsung you get to code for well below average salaries in a very stiff corporate environment.

Then again Im a polish slav living in Poland, so it might be just that.

Microsoft: Convicted monopolist, constantly destroys industry leadership by unethically killing or buying the competition.
