So what the hell is cyberspace?

The term is thrown around a lot these days to refer to the web in general and the expanse of different networks that are a part of it, but I always thought cyberspace represented a different futuristic concept that the internet would be one day represented in three dimensional space accessible through a VR headset or something. What do you think cyberspace means?
