We're a pretty tight crew here. Nobody really cares what your vibe is as long as others can work around you and you get what you need to done. It's pretty nice just being treated like a responsible adult. I don't have a manager or anything I just come in, do work in the most productive way for myself I can, and go home. I can wear what I want as long as the work is top-notch. My coworker has a japanese school girl outfit I could probably push this boundary a lot more.

finance sector here in the US is brutal too. I have a lot of friends who converted to NEET after burning out of the financial sector. I'm really curious to know what it's liking working for the financial sector in Germany though, got any insight? My friend is an academic in Germany and his complaint is that he is the only one passionate about his work among his coworkers. Is the industry sector full of more drive? He's an American expact so I can see him talking up what sees as 'european laziness' we're all pretty live to work over here.

I'm in the business for less than 2 years and part of that as an intern, so I don't have a huge insight yet. Work itself is pretty chill and there are definitely some motivated and high skilled people on my team, not all of them though.
"european laziness" describes the less motivated pretty well.
This is only for the IT side though. I have heard some horror stories of the people working in the finance/banking side and they are pretty much always stressed out, regularly doing overtime, etc.

But yeah, the "live to work" mentality is not very popular here. You don't take your work home.
