At that price point it's not a bad idea to look at pre-owned chairs. Plenty of office supply stores and online retailers that sell used office chairs, usually with their own warranty.

Herman Miller Aeron or Mirra and Steelcase Leap V2 are probably the most common ones you'll see. The leap can be had new for about $400, and the Aeron/Mirra is only available used for 3-500. At your price point, you'll want as many options for ergonomics as possible. Lumbar stiffness/position at the minimum along with recline and height.

Just keep in mind that comfort isn't based on how plush the seat is, it's on how well weight is distributed and how you feel after a whole day of sitting.

It's fun to have situations where you need to heel-toe. I'm far too trash to reliably use it for rally, but for slower paced racers it's fantastic. Once you get used to full manual, it's just as good of an upgrade compared to when you get a standalone wheel.

G27 pedals feel quite nice and sturdy. Good springs. Can even mod it to work upside down, like in an actual car. H shifter is a bit plastique and doesn't have a dedicated 7th slot for reverse, but there's not a whole lot better than slowly going through a dozen gears when driving a truck.

Agreed on the mesh seats. Too springy, and you can't sit cross legged. Makes me feel like I'm rolling around in a kayak.

Friend of mine who makes music gave me a little drawing with the cassette tape I bought from him. G20 is really nice and I think worth the money if you like them. A well lit picture would be a good start. Cable management would be suspect then, however. A few bucks for some adhesive clips on the underside of the desk near the wall does wonders. Velcro, zipties, or even twist ties from packaging/bread loaves help as well.

Fair point with the shape of the seat back. Lumbar in those chairs is more akin to lumbar support in a car seat, where the top of your back doesn't really rest on the seat a whole lot. It's not mandatory, but it can help a lot depending on how the seat back is made, especially if it's mesh and you're reclining.

Can't go too wrong with craigslist finds as you can try them all out, but some foaming upholstery cleaner is gonna be required.

Spare parts are commonplace if longevity is an issue.

It's an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 17, and I run it at 1024x768. It supports up to 1600x1200, but my graphics card doesn't have VGA in any form, and the adapter cable I use doesn't support higher resolutions. This is however not a big deal since I basically only use the CRT to watch 4:3 content and play games like Cavestory, which tend to be lower res anyway.

I'd really like some feedback on my current setup. Specifically, should I add a long armed lamp? I've seen it in a lot of battlestations. also, any recommendations on little objects to place around the desk?

(note: this is an old photo. I've removed the lamp [as well as the knife], cleaned up the cable management, added a mousepad, changed location of amp, removed the tacky beatles rockband stuff, and straightened the album covers. ALSO: my desk is in fact not sagging, i used a circular lens because i couldn't get a wide enough shot.)

a nice ikea cable rack to shove all your cords into (the easy way)

it's actually really easy. i've got a white one (pic related) and when it gets dirty, its super visible. anyways, i usually drench the entire thing in the sink, pour some dish soap, and go to town rubbing the shit out of the dirt. i also just leave it in the sink filled with soapy water to completely soak it. comes out perfect

i left it in there for about 15-30 mins, drained the sink, made sure there was no dirt left, and stuck it under a house fan. after about 2 hours and some adjusting the angle of what part was getting dried, it was done. also, can i ask you about your mouse setup? that's the chroma elite right? how would you compare it to the regular deathadder chroma? and how is your bungee faring as far as fps go? does it actually help any? im a cs player and id do anything for a slight increase in performance. Actually it's the Razer Mamba Tournament Edition. I had the original DeathAdder before it died on me. Honesly, after you get used to it's odd shape (It's thicker), I'd say it is really good. I haven't had any issues with tracking plus the DPI it is capable is insane, not that it matters since you want to play on low DPI anyways.

I got the Bungee because my mouse cable kept grinding on the edge of the desk and I can feel/see it bumping my aim. On top of that big flicks don't get the cable in your way. Basically it makes if feel like you have a wireless mouse without the unpredictability of a wireless mouse.

If you are a big FPS gamer, I'd say the bungee is a must, other wise it's just not worth it.

I've never played CS:GO, mostly an Overwatch player. The new mouse, bungee and monitor made me jump from low Masters to High Grandmaster in about two seasons. Overall I am damn happy with them.

Just installed the monitor arm and mounted the broadband equipment on the wall today, much cleaner than it was. Plan is to vinyl wrap the desk matt white next and replace the lamp with some LED strips hidden under the monitors.

I think I'll paint the case, monitor bezels and speakers white too but paint the grey parts of the speakers light blue to match the walls. I'm fed up with black everything and I'm hoping to end up with a much lighter, airier space.
