What's your honest opinion about Toshiba hard disks?
Their laptop HDDs were nice and quite, at least before the acquisition.
There's a reason they went bankrupt

Been using one for like 5 years, no issues
Solid choice if you don't want to pay the WD premium for 7200 rpm drives nor the subpar reliability of Seagate. All my internal 3.5" drives are Toshiba.

They are made using mostly Hitachi R&D, because U.S. courts required WD to give Toshiba assets to provide for competition.
Their warranties are longer than WD and Seagate, and the price point are appealing too. I like them as a brand - they look like the only thing going right with the company.

The 3TB one is loud as fuck
The 2TB and smaller ones don't seem to have this problem for whatever reason
Otherwise it's bretty gud

using 2 toshiba hdds for years at home, 0 issues so far.
I work in a cinema, we have 5 screens, each screen server has 4 hard disks. All Toshiba, 0 issues since 2013 and they are on >12 hours a day, 364 days a year.
I had no problems with them.
Seagate though, 5.
5. Not kidding. 5 dead drives within less than a year. I wish I was kidding. I used WD, Toshiba, Maxtor and Samsung, never had them fail like this.

It's all luck of the draw I've had about 6 WD's go bust to one Seagate. Old Seagate was goat. New drives seem to have shittier build across the board.

I take the position in which I'm not gonna deny that people have had a good experience with Seagate, but since I seem to be cursed with Seagate drives failing on me I won't buy any more.
WD is the default choice
Toshiba is knowledgeable choice
Seagate is DOA, disposable, pleb choice
I've got four 4 TB Toshiba drives in my NAS.
2 are about a year old, the other 2 a few months.
They do make quite a bit of noise when they're being accessed, but no issues so far. Pretty good for the price

>bought a transcend portable hdd back in 2007/2008 which turned out to be a Toshiba in disguise
>the year is 2017 and it's still kicking
Though I don't often plug it in, got like 1700 on-time hours on it
