The next release is getting gnome. They are dumping unity. I think it's also going to have wayland by default as well.

Congrats to Linux. It's now where windows was in 1995. Now it only needs proper applications and an update system that doesn't break.

Well actually it needs a whole new kernel. A nice micro kernel, Because lets be real here. Putting drivers in the kernel is just kinda dumb.

Needs binary apps too. Get rid of those awful packages and use binaries like a white man. Theres no point in having packages that depend on other packages that are 800mb in size but you have to have it because some obscure package somewhere requires it.

So basically just scrap the whole shitty system and start over again.

Windows 10 gives me nothing but headaches.
Everything in that system is complete and utter shit.

It's all SHIT.

The fuck? Since when did drivers come from OneDrive or some shit?

This is so fucking autistic, I would be suprised if you could even get a Linux OS fucking installed and not wipe your whole partiton table you autistic fucking waste of space. Go back to a macbook.

It's been ahead of Windows in many ways, for years, until W10 was released.

>update system that doesn't break
Pretty much every mainstream distro won't break through updates.

>remove drivers from kernel
Since every piece of hardware has so far worked for me, I can't complain about this.

>needs to replaced packages
A lot of software is installed through an sh "exe" "alternative" which usually bundles dependencies. Also appimage exists.
So if you're a normie, installation of shit is pretty easy nowadays.

Embrace, extend, and extinguish

Look it up. This is what Microsoft does when they want to off competition. Satja must be upset customers are moving to Linux over his botnet
>>
>>61342618
Actually he's just giving devs less of a reason to use the alternatives when they could develop on their current OS. He nor anyone at microsoft could give a fuck about consumers, they're stuck with windows regardless unless they pony up 1.5k for a laptop.

>>he can't use notepad
How do you justify it not being able to edit text files properly with UNIX line endings?

>>he has slow ass internet...
No, see, Windows downloads the updates while I use them. So there is no problem there. The problem is the time it takes to apply those patches. And to make things worse, while it does so, the OS is rendered unusable.

>>he complains about uninstalling software
Yeah, because having to wait 1 minute to uninstall NVIDIA Experience is not understanding computers.

>>2 setting panels make his little head hurt
It doesn't. It's just dumb. I get the argument that it's for "backwards comparability", but it gets annoying when one of the settings panels don't contain all of the settings.

>>drivers in cloud
No, the driver is local. But to use it I must submit to their botnet and be loged in at all times.

>he doesn't know how to get rud of ads with literally 3 clicks of a button
Anon, I paid for a copy of Windows to use, not to tweak. Doesn't this invalidate the whole "works out of the box" argument?

I vidya with GPU passthrough and 5820k. Gave the VM 4c8t, not even using core pining and it runs like it's on bare metal.

In a lot of ways it's even better than running windows bare, I can pause the VM with a game running and leave it for hours, then resume it like nothing happened. Make sure to set your virtual clock to drop missed ticks if you do this though.

It might be that they've tried installing their software by manually finding the sources and dependencies (like you would on windows) and then compiling it themselves. All this because they bothered not read into package management.

>>
>>61347024
If you find some bit of source code from 1978 in a tar archive it might need some obscure dependencies which you have to build manually and so on, but it'll work with some effort.

People seem to resent this, but in the old days it was unthinkable to run *BINARIES* on your nice Unix machine, you'd compile them with your special flags and maybe even your house compiler. Also much useful software was distributed in source code form only.

Kids these days have no idea what their OS was even built to do, or why it is set up the way it is. Linux is actually set up more like a typical multi-user Unix than say OS X, which is descended from a specially tuned workstation OS version of Unix.

Of course these days if you're running any mainstream Linux distro installing most any bit of software you can think of is as easy as slamming your forehead into the space bar if it's in your package or ports system.

With using alternatives. Maybe devops can go without linux, but everything else still need the real thing.
