Found out today that one of the poo in the loo coworkers has been offered a role at Apple as a developer.
Knowing the mediocre quality of the code produced by this person, I am quite astonished.

Don't do tech giants have some kind of high standards in terms of who they hire or is that just a meme?

It's not a meme. Companies like google/apple/fb/MS have 4-5 rigorous, back to back whiteboard coding interviews after an initial phone screen and a collaborative coding interview. Even lunch is an interview. Pajeet must have pulled a lot of strings if you believe he wasn't worth it.
