It is, in dollars-per-terabyte terms. But you need a pretty large number of terabytes and absolute dollars by hobbyist data-hoarder standards. For the kind of scale that we operate on you're better off just burning a disc with your more-important stuff on it and having a friend keep it in a drawer.

i'm 27 and only bought maybe 2 albums on cd, bought a few albums on casette before then, but soon after i got a cd player, i got internet access, and even though it was only dial-up, and dowloading a song took ~15 minutes, it was good enough for the relatively few songs i wanted to get

I dont use CD's. I use Rufus to burn os's to USB sticks though and it works really well. When i do need to burn something to CD i just windows' built in one lol
