I usually describe my problem in detail to a friend online and end up getting the same effect.
Tux plushies exist for a reason. A rubber duck makes no sense, but Tux is the programming penguin.

That works for me since I don't do programming for a living. You can't do that if you've signed an NDA though.

I have an akari figure on my desk at work, sometimes I imagine myself explaining program internals to akari from yuru yuri and it usually helps me see glaring logic errors.
