Nightly has become fast as fuck and honestly, the change to WebExt made a huge difference in performance.

Latest build enables you to seperate to let them run in a seperate process. Nightly is snappy af now.
browser.tabs.remote.autostart;true
extensions.webextensions.remote;true
dom.ipc.processCount;15(or any number you like, you need RAM)

>Latest build enables you to seperate to let them run in a seperate process.
*enables you to let them run in a seperate process

sorry..
>>
>>61318205
>>61318213
how does this thing work, will it be in the next beta build or is it reserved to nightly
>>
>>61318234
seperate processes for webextension addons are reserved to nightly but seperate processes for tabs have already been implemented. Though, some old addons do not support multiprocess which means you should replace them by new alternatives and enable browser.tabs.remote.force-enable;false.

In case you don't know how it works:
1. Type "about:config" in your address bar
2. Search for "browser.tabs.remote.autostart" and set to true
3. same for the rest
>>
>>61318258
yeah I know I've been using it since like v48

Some addons aren't completely legacy. Hybrid addons get marked as legacy when they're really partly of almost fully compatible with webextensions APIs. Addon devs are using hybrid addons to transfer settings and configuration over to webextensions and to gradually port older code over to the new APIs

>>61318205
I am a Nightly user and I am fucking annoyed by Mozillas shit. Just today I got an update that makes the new tab page look exactly like chromes and wastes so much fucking space.

Also forcing WebExtensions in its current state is such a bad decision, it is buggy and lacks tons of features.

Everytime I use Chrome it is noticeable that it is 1000% faster. I just don't use it because of muh botnet and because I host my own firefox sync server and Firefox for Android which has proper plugin support (uBlock etc).

Also Google shouldn't have a monopoly on browsers.

>Also forcing WebExtensions in its current state is such a bad decision, it is buggy and lacks tons of features.
look at the calendar. it's july and the webextensions update is scheduled for november
>>
>>61320255
For stable, but nightly update in august it's mandatory.
>>
>>61320255
Still a bad decision imo because there is no way that it will even have 10% of the features the old API has by then.
And customization was always one of Firefox' strong points...

You'll never see this screen unless you bloat ff with a shit ton of useless addons which would crash it. I haven't seen a single crash in the last 3 years of using firefox and 6 months of using nightly.

>>61319408
Yes. They don't provide installers. They instead give you an archive which you unpack into a folder with firefox installed. Then you'll have to make a custom laucher for the run file (for convenience). This is easy if you use XFCE or KDE. I haven't tried on GNOME but Unity was shit and couldn't into custom launchers/shortcuts which is why I moved from vanilla Ubuntu.

I'm a firefox user and not a shill and I don't know/care about benchmark performance, but the perceived performance with JS heavy websites (e.g. Maps) is much better in Chromium. I still won't use it because of the reasons stated in the other post.

You have to be a google shill, nobody can be okay with this level of thought control. The way they use google search and YouTube to try to manipulate public opinion is disgusting. I guess Google """"optimizing"""" their sites for their own browser also plays a role, but the increased performance is also noticeable on other sites (for me, on Linux, YMMV).
>>
It's only been getting better in performance which really doesn't matter when your whole appeal is customization and extensability, but they're trading that for perf. Mozilla themselves have turned into the devil while having a SUN like budget plan (bleed money as fast as you can on nothing important).

This shit is so backwards, why does every browser have to be barebones and stock only now? Why even cater to the people who don't care, are they going to see a benefit from all these performance enhancements with their 2 tabs. What's up with all the rust integration too, are they planning on dropping support for non x86 platforms? The state of web browsers right now is abyssal, Firefox is the best choice and I obviously hate what it's become, so what does that show. Good thing I can just move to Opera, oh wait.

Alright you fucking faggots, I fell for the Nightly meme. It's actually fast this time, almost as fast as Chromium. It's just a little bit slower, almost not noticeable and on some websites it's actually faster than Chromium. Nightly also comes with codecs so videos on normie websites work. I'm impressed.
Posted from Chromium because I'm watching a stream on Nightly which was previously impossible to do on stable Firefox and won't play on Chromium because it doesn't have stupid codecs.

Is this why Firefox can't use my native gtk theme? It pisses me off that Firefox has to look different from the rest of my programs. I try to set up a vaporwave rice and Firefox ruins it with a modern Chrome rip off look.

Mozilla's appeal is backing free open source software and resisting stagnation on the web. XUL addons are FOSS but they're not portable and no one wants to embed Gecko in their application so XUL addons being FOSS is damn near useless. Gecko is damn near useless as-is because it's huge and has outstanding bugs that no one can address because XUL addons get in the way. Both XUL addons and Gecko are causing Mozilla to become stagnant.

This is not sustainable there's other solution here except cutting XUL addons loose and FINALLY fixing the problems with Gecko that have been set aside all this time.

I realize its not remotely the same thing, but couldn't you use Bopomofo as an input method? Or would that not work for Cantonese?

To Be Honestly

Moz:\\a finally getting on board with the multithreading might be its saving grace

I use Pale Meme right now, but I hate it when Facebook's Pajeet-Tier JS abomination gets stuck AND THE WHOLE BROWSER LOCKS UP BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING SINGLETHREADED. EVEN MICROSOFT EDGE LETS YOU BROWSE TABS WHEN ONE ISN'T RESPONDING FFS

but I tried Firefox fifty-something recently and it looks like it might actually be worth it to use

Cannot fucking stand that they got rid of toolbars. Roboform is fucking useless now and I have to find a different password manager.

Are you seriously asking why we have test builds of software before it's made stable?
>>
>>61335410
no, the anon I was responding to doesn't seem to know that because he bitched about an unfinished feature being "forced" in nightly
>>
>>61335138
Developer edition is going away. But it is one version behind nightly, and beta is one version behind dev edition.

>Developer edition is going away.
Aurora is going away. Developer Edition will be based on Beta going forward. Developer edition is still 1 version behind Nightly, Beta has been moved one version up. Nothing else changed.
>>
>>61338348
Put it in a file called userChrome.css and place it in your profile folder and it should continue to work even without stylish
