Selling overpriced cards to miners is much more profitable
>>
>>61314836
Oh yeah can't wait to get my hands on some primo half-melted cards that have been abused for months on end.
>>
>>61316069
you think they would let amd rake in the profits? i think not!! also who says they don't have their own mining operation. they probably have a super farm in china or somewhere top secret

I might takes months for prices to go back to RRP and supply to normalise though

Good. Get rekt you dumb mining cunts.
>>
A few questions

1. Why is the 1070 so popular for mining?
2. What are the calculations for? Who do they benefit?
3. What is the realistic cost vs profit on this?
4. Is it worthwhile to let my GPU (gtx1080) mine when I'm at work?
>>
>>61314702
Kek. It's time to buy.
>>
>>61316719
1) unavailability of Amd GPUs
2) blockchain, plenty of info online
3) use calculators for your desired cryptocurrency
4) most likely
>>
>>61316719
Most efficient after AMD cards.
The calculations are modified AES hashes. No one.
Falling rapidly. It's too late to invest (at least in Bitcoin or Etherum) if you haven't already.
Only if you don't pay for power. Your GTX 1080 is less power efficient thanks to its GDDR5X which is why no one mines with them.

Because grownups dont invest in monopoly money anon. take the hint.

Goddamn. I have a single reference R9 290 and it's already loud (even when not full load), I can't even imagine how ear piercing 5 or even 10 of them could be when working at 100% load.

What, you think your real-life graphics card is a Platonic representation of the blueprint sketched out by chip designers? Think again. A percentage of logic gates and memory bits will be broken straight off the production line, and more fail every time you turn your computer on (in fact, they'd still slowly degrade if you left it in storage). Redundancy is built in for this reason, but that's designed around getting X years out of a component with Y probability under normal usage. If you overclock and/or mine cryptocurrencies, you'll be pumping in far more energy than expected, and your card will therefore degrade much faster. Only a mug would buy a graphics card that's been used in a mining rig.

I heard something like 5% of the worlds energy is being consumed by cryptofags. They love their global warming. Anyhow, there is no real value in this meme. That money has to come from somewhere and it's other miners who didn't get in and out early enough (dumping). Same as stocks and shares. Someone has to lose for others to win.

I wish people who are new used their brain a little before doing afk mining with their cards. It's not a problem for most models, but you gotta be aware that if the VRAM and/or VRM aren't properly cooled on your implementation, you might kill the card eventually. Mining isn't equivalent to gaming load.

the calculations have no other use than proving that computation work went into creating a block.
the calculations are completely useless apart from that.
they consist in calculating sha256 hashes over and over until one is found with enough zeroes in front of it (the larger the difficulty, the more zeroes there are)
I don't understand why we couldn't have a crypto where the calculations actually do something useful (like folding proteins, SETI, etc)
