I'm starting with Avidemux because it's the tool of choice when you need to trim a video to save space without re encoding it

GNU Screen is without a doubt my favorite program. I originally started using it for pair programming; you can set up permissions such that another user can connect to your screen session. Now I use it to connect to my work session over ssh. The main thing that keeps me using it over something like tmux is the serial support. I can just run 'screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200' and connect to the serial output of whatever board I'm working on. Let me tell you, connecting with screen is much easier than figuringnout something like minicom.

Yes but having a GUI makes it much quicker, plus you can see the video preview and can select which frame to crop at

Paint.NET with the PSP plugin shunt so it'll run anything for PS*.
It's amazing and has a metric fuckton of insane/creative/useful plugins/filters that you can't get on anything else.

I learnt the basic syntax for shits and giggles when i was shitposting on /sci/ back in high school. It really isn't that difficult. If syntax is 2hard4u just use one of the IDEs.
