So now that the internet is well on it's way to being completely politically partitioned, what's next?

Comment sections are actually more automated postings than they are actual content. There's more astroturf than foliage. This goes both ways, I'm not singling out either "side" (whatever they're even called anymore, "left" and "right" are also basically dead terms now). Social media has become a game of who can upvote or like or heart or whatever their fake profile networks to the top of the comment section. Boomers are too naive to even understand it.

The "meme wars" is just a cute rebranding of the info wars, which are at their highest point and more technologically advanced and engaged than ever before. Rich people with big assets are engaging entire server farms to push their narrative with unprecedented demographic precision.

Now ISPs are getting closer and closer to being able to draw the lines of online communities themselves via the abolition of net neutrality. I cannot see this doing anything but exacerbating the current situation.

We are already communicating at the speed of light, anywhere, anytime. I remember growing up being told that this would make us learn more about each other and make everyone more accepted but it seems to only be entrenching the boundaries further. Are we going to see actual digital borders? Are they going to be more relevant than physical ones?

im legitimately scared that the manufactured tensions between the normies will ultimately lead us to our own annihilation, and no amount of onion layers will protect you from that
>>
Your mistake is believing that any borders exist at all, entrenchment of boundries is always a good thing, without boundries there is nothing but chaos and anarchy, caused largely by the socialists with there ideals of capitalism.

"We are already communicating at the speed of light, anywhere, anytime."

Yes, Rich people with big assets are engaging entire server farms to push their narrative with unprecedented demographic precision, because Rich people are dumb.

OP here,

I also want to add that i remember when newspapers would have "letters to the editor", a section where citiziens wrote in their commentaries on daily events, giving a "slice of life" perspective from the average Joe. This had the advantage of being curated, so that you at least had to have something of substance to say, but I can see the perception that this was "media censorship".

But now, when I look at the live feed of comments next to the G20 summit and all I see is two competing mobs of 1-month old accounts repeating "FUCK MERKEL RUINED THE EU WANT TO FUCKING SHOOT THIS STUPID BITCH" and "DONALD TRUMP IS THE WORST SHIT TO HAPPEN TO THIS COUNTRY FUCK THE REPUBLICANS WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT", I can't help but feel like we are moving backwards.

I wouldn't lose all hope yet. ISPs have always had that power but haven't used it as of yet. It's quite possible that public backlash will be too large for it ever to be effectively implemented
>>
OP here again, I'm just going to continue musing because it keeps the thread alive and I really want to get people discussing this.

I feel like the internet is becoming an extension of the "red-state / blue-state / swing-state" in the USA. And I'm not American, for those who think I am only viewing this through the narrow American lens.

I feel like whether people like or not, the Western World is effectively completely globalized. Our media looks the same, our cultures are more or less the same, and we are so tangled up now that what should seem like simple national decisions "i.e. Britain's 'we should leave th EU'" are inextricably tangled in with the global landscape, which why they are now mired in what will be years of debate and discussion.

Each side (I'll call them "left" and "right". I still think thee terms are outdated but it's the best we have so far) seems to "own" certain communities (states), barring some localized sub-communities. For instance, the left owns reddit, the right owns 4chan, and places like twitter are swing-states, which is why you see such intensive deployment of fake accounts, posturing and network-building. I feel like even these "swing communities" will eventually fracture and there will be the "left one" and the "right one", and right now it's a game to see who can grab the most users before the split. I wonder if there will be any more neutral spaces that will pop up to replace it. Once all the neutral ground is gone, what happens then?

what about it? are you saying porn will save us?
>>
>>61305137

You should be more concerned about how the MSM is normalizing mob violence against people who disagree with the left. The chance of you getting your head split by an Antifa on the net is 0, IRL...

t. victim-playing donaldeer

the right has been openly encouraging organized violence against journalists and activists in the exact same way, just using clever little code-words and dancing around the exact language
>>
>>61306878

LOL this fucking guy...

for every person like you who is crying about being a victim there is one on the left doing the exact same thing. you are being pitted against each other as a distraction, wake up

>donaldeer

Trump is a fucking kike.

>the right has been openly encouraging organized violence against journalists

These are the same journalists that want to start a war with Russia while admitting in private in O'Keefe videos that they're lying to the stupid public.
Yeah you can fuck right off faggot.

They are doing the exact same thing, that doesn't mean they're right.

Digital border already exist fag.

Well the thing is we need competition. There are only two options in each state. It would be better if we allowed competition for us all to use the best service with no throttling or caps.

Welcome to politics where each side has tunnel vision of point to how bad the other side is, triple down on being right and take no responsibility for being wrong whatsoever. Both are wrong and until you wake up to that you will always be mad about it until you die.
