I've tried that.

It was neat for a while but for some reason it ran hot on my X230 and getting basic things installed was sometimes painful. Xfce often stuttered even when vsync was enabled.

Fast as fuck and booting to Xfce only consumed 80MB, but it it just didn't werk, so I went back to Fedora.

nah, cmon, maybe i'm wrong on gentoo as I haven't tried it, but why would you use some other turds scripts when you just linux from scratch, learn how x86 boot process works, what the linker does etc etc..
