Mplayer and even xbmc always worked better than mpc-hc for me in 2009!
Now mpv is supreme and works on almost every device with a GPU.
The devs behind mpc-hc have also slowdown the development, they include new lavfilters build in their nightly releases only now, so no development at all since a long time. It seems potplayer and mpc-be are now the only free directshow players with active development now.
