I basically have this setup, one is for my gaming rig, the other is for my "headless" server that I occasionally find myself needing to plug a monitor into because, for instance, the PCI NIC died (fml).

Maybe hers is for a render box or something that is wired up to her main PC?

She uses CAD software, right? I could see having a dedicated machine with a bunch of quadro cards in it to render crap.

You can change some ID resistors and quadro your card super cheap. Older cards were far easier, but can still be done.

My monitor has three ports. I use the DP for my main PC. The HDMI is connected to the server for the occasions I need to see that it boots. Then there's the VGA which I use for testing.
