I think people are overhyping Ryzen because it's the first decent thing AMD has made in like 5 years and all the fanboys have built up hype and are exploding right now.

I expect things to settle down and Intel to once again take the crown with coffee and cannon lake.
>>
>>61271068

No competition and Intel monopoly during last decade was really bad for CPU development and technology progress.
>>

My first GPU ever was an ATI HD 4670 1GB Sapphire, my second was an AMD HD 7850 1GB Sapphire. Currently I am on a GTX 970 and I was planning to seriously upgrade to a full AMD PC when Vega releases. But the piece of shit is bugged into oblivion and isn't even close to its paper performance. How does that exactly make me an Nvidia fanfag?

Ok, how about this one.

When has a 'non-gaming' GPU ever performed like absolute garbage in gaming benchmarks?

Here I'll even give you the answer: Never, the only differences have always come down to differing clockspeeds.
>>
>>61271337
And of course when I say this I mean relative to its consumer or 'gaming' counterpart.

If you seriously think RX Vega will be significantly faster you're a 12 year old minecraft kiddie whose first ever GPU is likely not even a year old yet.

Why encrypt if you're not gonna make it secure anyway?
>>
>>61273595
Who says it isn't secure? I went for it when m$ added the AES-XTS mode to BitLocker in one of the major windows 10 updates.

I get that BitLocker isn't open-source but it's the only fully integrated solution for FDE on windows. I know that veracrypt et. al. started supporting it but it just doesn't work as well as BitLocker does. There haven't been any proven "back doors" in BitLocker and at the end of the day it's definitely going to protect my data if the pc gets stolen or something like that.

Bitlocker is really pretty bad, if you're not careful they'll just "backup" your key to the cloud while Enchancing Your Experience.

XTS is also pretty bad all around, it's vulnerable to bit flipping attacks like crazy.
The only redeeming point of it is it doesn't take any more space, which is just insecure as it turns out.

Probably around 2020. I've been tempted to go for a 1700, but I don't really need the performance and don't want to sacrifice my working platform. I know Ryzen still has a lot of bugs.

My friend bought a Ryzen, he needed to order a 2133 DDR4 module in order to get it going. He couldn't use his regular RAM before.

8 cores is only a small advantage over 6 cores, I might not switch before 10 or 12 cores. As I don't really need the performance I will wait until I get such a CPU for 300 - 400 €. 30 minutes faster rendering time is nice, but who cares when I need 2 days for uploading a 4K video,

Given SIGGRAPH is less than a month away and at that time we will know for certain if vega is a flop or not making a decision now is stupid.

Same thing happened earlier this year with /g/ telling people ryzen would be sand vagina or wose IPC at same core count and flop like a limp dick only to be proven wrong. The lesson? Wait(™) when big releases are a matter of weeks away. Once vega drops AMD will have played its hand (and Nvidia had played their hand long ago) thus you can be confident in any purchasing decision for the next 6-12 months.

Navi vs volta is completely unpredictable given the totally different directions Nvidia and AMD are taking.

The leaked benchmarks aren't looking to good for Vega right now, but your right just wait and see. But I don't think that better drivers will increase performance past a 1080ti. At most were looking at a card between the 1080 and the 1080 ti and if it's not priced right it just won't be worth it. Theres this other thread going on right now comparing vega to a fury x and it's not looking to good when it comes to ipc performance.

Won't see any change in single core performance but multicore performance will be more than double.
>>
>>61280254
>>61280364

Depends on workload and specific instructions involved. In some cases the 1700 leaves a 3770 in the dust, others they are neck-and-neck.

>>61280375

As per a random quote from Chief Street-shitter Raja 50% of performance is on the software side. I still say that when this sort of money is involved caution is the smarter move simply because if one product is confirmed shit then you have 100% certainty you ar making the right choice by buying the alternative product. FE vega is many things but gaymen it is not. Vidya profiles are a HUGE element of Geforce and Radeon performance and vega FE severely looks like it lakes the game-specific hacks that make vidya work.

On a tangeant its why Intel's igpu sucks balls in vidya - Intel lacks the resources to write vidya specific hacks to ensure performance compared to AMD and Nvidia despite Intel's tech - for integrated graphics (on a paper level) being leagues ahead of the competition.
