Reminder that this image is outdated.
The quoted line was changed because retards kept taking it out of context.
It is from the Microsoft Services section which only applies to online services such as Hotmail and OneDrive which require a Microsoft account.
The "private folders" part is referring to non-public OneDrive folders. Microsoft simply doesn't want cp on their servers.

you can always dual boot if you're unsure. I switched to linux full time a year ago and kept my windows partition just incase, I think I booted it about 5 times in that year.

Just this week I made a recovery image of that partition just incase and expanded my linux partition.

Haven't felt better.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Windows, is in fact, VMS\Windows NT, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, VMS plus Windows.
Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning VMS system made useful , utilizing concepts from and using vital system components defined by OpenVMS specification.
Many computer users run a modified version of the VMS system every day, without realizing it.
Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of VMS which is widely used today is often called “Windows NT” or "Windows", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the VMS system, developed by DEC.
There really is a Windows NT, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Windows NT is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system.
"Windows" is normally used in combination with the VMS operating system: the whole system is basically VMS with Windows added, or VMS\Windows NT.
All the so-called version of “Windows NT” are really distributions of VMS\Windows NT.

>>
>>61273857
Whats wrong with Libre Office?
>>
>>61273865
It's inferior in almost every way (stability, ui, formatting capabilities) to office. Editing large documents, or combining smaller ones into a single large one, is much more difficult. Not to mention that footnotes and the like often get screwed up when exporting from libre to Ms word.

Also, libre office doesn't have anything remotely close to ms access.

Looks more like you are used to msoffice...

Anyway I don't like libreoffice either but more cuz gtk
>>
>>61273902

You know you could code that functionality yourself instead of bitching about it.
>>
I think for most people, LibreOffice is enough. Unless you need to get 100% out of your application, instead of 96% of functionality, the price and botnet is not worth it.
>>
>>61274042
He doesn't care about the functionality. He uses windows cause it is superior in his eyes. He doesn't seem to care if microsoft loses. Why should he code then.

But with his criticism, he is helping people who care about that microsoft loses against free software to improve it

I already experienced frustrating bug when you could not change default program for given extension because of buggy piece of shit code

you had to fix it with this ridiculous command
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

now idiots from MS forced me creators update after 30 minutes of crunching I landed on black blank screen with mouse cursor.
I had to shutdown computer and restore previous state

now my windows update will not work and only forcing me their retarded creators update that does not work either

Apart from games, I cannot think of any reason to have windows. I have a couple of laptops with Debian.
Convince me to turn this windows PC into a *nix box. Thanks

Anything 'community' based always attracts angry autists and retards. The kinds of people who wish they had some kind of importance in the world but don't and so have to resort to fake authority on online forums. That's why everyone online involved in Linux is a massive cunt. Hell, look at the very people who head the project, Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman, both 2 of the most insufferable people in the world.

To be fair, it's the community that is responsible for the OS, and the game maker that is responsible for the game. And community driven development is always selfish. It's literally just people working on what they want to work on, and being kind enough to share it with others. Feel free to contribute if you think it's lacking something that you want.

Who is Microsoft? That's not a person. Give me the names of the people you trust so much. Tell me what steps they have in place to make sure that nobody ever finds out what you have done.

If you can't answer this quickly and with precision, then you are trusting complete strangers and have no clue if they are even bothering to protect you, let alone how.
>>
>>61282461
Well that's an easy one:

Microsoft is a company of people that keep the Windows OS and Xbox gaming platform up to date, and sell other software products as a back catalogue. The people there are nameless and faceless to most, but trusted because they fully tell you they save increments of your data at a time for different purposes, none of which seem sinister, unless you call advertising Tylenol after typing "sick" a few times sinister. The steps they have in place to make sure nobody finds out what I have are options to opt out of cloud services, encryption should I so choose, and their own system security.

You on the other hand said you'd publish my stuff to be Googled. Microsoft did not. You want people to know my porn habits. Microsoft doesn't care what I jerk it to. I can easily Google employees at Microsoft, who the current sitting CEO is yadda yadda. I cannot Google your name, since I don't know it.

Be honest. Hold some accountability for once in your life.
>>
>>61282432
In what way was he dishonest? He told you exactly what he was going to do.
>>
>>61282597
The analogy was dishonest, you dolt.
>>
>>61282592
I didn't ask what Microsoft was. I asked you for the names of the people you trusted. Don't tell me that you won't trust an anonymous person online, but will trust an anonymous group of people hiding behind a corporate name!

>The people there are nameless and faceless to most
Everyone has a name and a face. Just because you can't pick them out doesn't give you the right to dehumanize them (both the good AND bad parts of humanity).

>The steps they have in place to make sure nobody finds out what I have are options to opt out of cloud services, encryption should I so choose, and their own system security.
All of which is bypassed by the EULA, giving them permission to log every key you stroke and every thing you do, both online and offline. All of your information is still available to the right people, who you can't even bring yourself to humanize. And these "nameless, faceless people," as you call them, that you couldn't pick out of a line up, or name if your life depended on it, are in charge of said security. They can breech it at any time. They can, in theory, publish your stuff to google. They could be hacked by someone that publishes your stuff to google.

Yet, despite ALL this, you seem to think that it is literally impossible, and, because of this, you claim that you don't care about privacy, all while denying me the opportunity to do everything that they are in their right to do, and might do in the future.

You care. You just like the image of MS, without giving a solitary thought to the fact that you don't know a single person responsible for keeping your deepest secrets private from the rest of the world.

You're a hypocrite.

>Be honest. Hold some accountability for once in your life.
I would advise the same. See, I'm open about wanting to remain private (although if I published anything, it would be with my name on the publication, to add credibility to the accusation). You, you pretend you don't care, but you really do.
>>
>>61282693
Tell me your name and make sure not to publish anything of mine. I'd also like a number and an email that won't die and is always readily available. Also, I'm going to need at least one photo.

I can find this at Microsoft. And in case your reading comprehension is just that shit, your dishonesty is about your analogies. Things that never happened shouldn't be compared to things that could happen. I could, in theory, find and harm you with your information. I'm not going to, but give it to me. This is now what you're saying after already saying you'd do the harm. What a piece of shit. Real fucking piece of work you are. Know what else you could do in theory? Be less of a dumb cunt.
>>
>>61282799
(Not the guy you're responding to)
I think one thing you also fail to take into account is that you believe that microsoft is the only entity that will be privy to your data. This has been proven multiple times to not be the case. Any sort of law enforcement agencies or government bureaus have access if they so please. Even if you also have no problem with this, what if microsoft were to be hacked? Personal data being leaked / stolen by hackers has happened multiple times to multiple different corporations, so if you don't trust an anonymous person on a chinese cartoon website or if you don't trust the russian hackers then you really also shouldn't trust microsoft.
>>
>>61282799
I'll tell you my name over the email. You will not get my phone number, because I value my privacy. You will not get my personal email, because I value my privacy, but the mule account will remain open and monitored. I'll give you a photo of my face, with a timestamp, to show good faith that I am who I claim I am.

In regards to making your information public, I will adhere to MS's EULA and Privacy Policy.

You saying my analogies are dishonest is cute, but incorrect. I'm not the one who made the claim that I didn't care about my privacy. That was you.

The mule address is [email protected]

I eagerly await ALL your usernames and passwords.

Not at all. I've been just as transparent as MS is. You don't know who has access to your shit, or have everyone who has access to your shit's personal phone number and email. I offered you my name and a vehicle of contacting me, which is all MS offers you as a corporation. I also promised to adhere to their EULA and Privacy Policy. Ok. You also get my name, as I promised. I will tell you over email.

So long as I can do it without violating MS's EULA and Privacy Policy, I absolutely will.

>That hasn't happened to me with Microsoft.
If they legally can't, then neither can I. However, if their EULA and Privacy Policy allows it, I absolutely will.

>I can now only trust MS.
Why? What have they offered you that I have not?
>>
>>61283145
It's not what they've offered or what they could do, it's what they didn't do. The only information they find interesting boil down to:

>Selling keystrokes to advertisers so they can be blocked by me and give MS more dollaridoos.
>Selling "bomb bomb bomb cyanide anthrax bomb plane hijacking bomb" to the FBI so they can get one potential lead with proper context out of billions of assholes joking around.

You could find anything interesting. It could be my porn habits instead of trying to create a better user experience. Could be just writing "I'm gay ooh I'm such a faggot I love children" all over my Facebook instead of selling my keys to advertisers. Heck, you could just want my credit card info instead of wanting to fix features I complain about over message apps. See, here's the thing, their publishing boils down to the hot dollar they can get from big names. Their only interests lie in a billion small increments of money that add up to big bucks. Your interest is solely in me after saying you'd make sure my stuff can be Googled. My trust broke there. No matter what you promise now, you burned yourself.
>>
>>61283242
Ok, so you trust MS, despite the fact that you obviously haven't read their EULA or Privacy Policy, just because they are MS. You have no idea who has access to your info, you have no idea what they can do with it, but they are MS, so its surely ok.

Alright. I understand. You're a fanboy giving blind loyalty to a company, and because they haven't fucked you YET, you presume that it will never happen on their watch, whether it be intentionally or no.

Then why didn't you install LTSB 2016?
>>
>>61268295
>I have Win 10 on my gaming rig because the 1080 doesn't support 7

Anon I think you fucked up. It was newer CPUs like Slylake and Ryzen that don't support Windows 7.

GPUs are still fine with 7 and that is likely not to change for a long time.
>>
>>61269289

Their fault.

I wouldn't be against buying myself a copy of LTSB and leaving behind KMS shit but they refuse to sell LTSB directly, refuse to sell it for a flat fee instead of subscription pricing and only sell it with volume licenses which makes it cost hundreds if not thousands minimum.

real question how do I stop this from updating?

all the cutting edge hardware you are using was designed in Linux, this is 100% guaranteed.

do you know what integrated circuits are?
do you know things like SoCs, CPUs, GPUs, etc?

ever wonder what software is used to design them?
(protip: they're called EDA tools)

this is software that costs tens of thousands of dollars per year, per user.

large companies (think Qualcomm, Intel, Apple, Samsung) easily pay over 10 million a year just on EDA software.

guess what, all those tools run exclusively on Linux.

Could you be any more underage? 9x was hot fucking garbage and were the most technically inferior operating systems of the decade. They were only used because MS had a monopoly by the time they released 95 because they paid/bullied software manufacturers into exclusively developing for Windows, and because IBM fucked up the release of OS/2 Warp (which was infinitely superior to 95 in every conceivable way). XP was just 2k with a fisher price reskin and 7 is when the botnet started to get out of control.
>>
>>61298308
This, 95/98/ME were absolutely awful
t. still has to work with 9x on a daily basis
>>
>>61267665
I hate how windows has so many fucking updates too.

Install Windows 7 fresh and even with the ISO directly from MS you'll have like 70 updates and then after restarting another 2 gbs of updates. I ended up with 20gbs used on a fresh install of w7 after updates. What the actual fuck.

95 OSR2 was probably the best of 95/98.

They had fixed most of the bugs in 95, and added USB support, but didn't bloat it up into 98.

Why does it have to be a clusterfuck of double digit updates with multiple restarts?

Ever used MacOS or Linux? Even Linux is easier and you have to use the terminal. No restarts required. MacOS is like patching a video game or phone OS, you get a simple version number. With Windows the updates don't even go out at the same time.
>>
>>61298706
Because you're installing several years' worth of updates at once. I restart once every couple of weeks for updates and it takes like 60 seconds altogether.
>>
>>61268933
How? you can't possibly be retarded enough to ruin your partition table...
>>
Why did people update to windows 10 in the first place?

The improvements are so little and now you break compatibility with a bunch of old games.
>>
>>61298716
But that's the point. Why is there not just one catch up update pajeet? If you install Ubuntu you get the newest version as an ISO from the website. If they can do it then MS should be able to, instead of giving some old version and then having to update it.

The good people at microsoft have important things going on in their lives and don't have the time to provide things like this unlike the NEETs that work on ubuntu. I would rather have inferior features of an OS created by working adults paying their own bills with families than use a superior system created by NEETs.

After about 5 minutes it still says checking for updates.

How long does it take to check for updates? She's going to bed in a few minutes but I think I just locked it in to some 3 hour long update shit.
