It's still technically within the ATX specification.

12v rail can be as low as 11.40v and as high as 12.60v and still be within spec.

Your 5v is also within spec.

Considering it is in BIOS does that change your opinion, Im probably going to upgrade to a 1000w PSU as I'm looking at getting 2 GTX 1080 to run in SLI
>>
>>61265503
You can run two GTX Titan X's with an OC'd 6700k on an 800w PSU.

1000W and more is for 3-4+ GPUs.

I'm trying to future proof my PC to some extent

While you are correct and I am not disagreeing with you I bought a 1000w power supply for a different reason and don't regret it.
I've been using a computer 16 hours a day from child so I knew I would own a power supply at any given point for the reaminder of my natural life and it comes down to this:
I assumed they used the highest quality parts in the 1kw units
Peak efficiency is at 50% load
Usable for any future build
I bought it the same time I bought the SSD in this smart info so it's been doing well so far. 27k hours and no issues.

PC parts are getting more power efficient generally as time goes on (thank you laptops and phones)

1000w will mostly be wasted.

Slightly off topic, but are there PSU's that report how much power is being used? like, you'd have some microC reporting the numbers via USB; 12V/5V/3.3V/-12V current output
>>
>>61266126
The higher end Corsair units will report power draw in the software.

I just use my UPS, it shows current power draw.

>-1% of nominal
How has that moved over time? If you want to know for sure, use a well-calibrated voltmeter. I doubt an LM78 or similar is calibrated to within 1%.

tell that to aymd and jewtel
>>
>>61266914
only really if you OC heavily or go with a HEDT part.
>>
>>61265597
That's not future proofing as CPUs and hard ware are going to get more and more efficient, reducing power usage

>using a computer 16 hours a day
Before updating to Debian Stretch yesterday, I literally had my computer on for 528 days straight on a random 700 W PSU with no trouble whatsoever. Of course, it's not like that PSU was new when I turned the computer on before that.

I just recently replaced a 400 W PSU in my home server that I had been using for around 7 years nonstop. I had to replace it not because of any electrical failure, but because the fan had seized up. Most likely, that just happened because I inherited that PSU from a friend who's a chronic smoker (the insides were coated with that tar-blended dust that comes out of all computer parts around smokers).

TL;DR: Unless you buy low quality no-name or bad-name PSUs, reliability isn't a problem.
