I dropped my phone a few times with no protection and got a 2-3 barely visible scratches on my screen(turn the brightness to half and you don't even see them) and a corner has the surface chipped.
Phone I have for 5 years now, still fast, looks good and probably won't buy another for 2-3 more years.
All you clumsy morons with butter sweaty fingers if you really need a case, don't buy just one buy 2.

yes it does provide protection, just make sure its ruberized, i dropped my phone like 100 times already with similar case and it received zero damage. Obviously if you drop your phone on uneven surface it might still damage the screen, but on even surface like in your room or office or diner, normal drop should do zero damage.

Unless you drop it from a build most rubberized cases should do the job. Screen protection can only be provided by flip cases tho, but there are a lot of slim line options for those too. If your an Android user there are smart covers for some models that are very neat. I personally use a P10 with a bootleg smart cover and it looks great! (also saves a lot of battery since I don't have to turn the screen on completely to check notifications)

I've got a Spigen case on my OnePlus 3T and a skinomi screen protector. Not worried about anything really damaging it at all.
