1080 @ 120hz vs. 4K @ 60hz

What and why?
>>
4k if you really need good visual quality at a premium
144hz if you need to play garbage like CSGO to save your life
neither if you don't need either of those things
>>
I'd take 1080 at 120hz.
Not a gaymur though. 1440p at 120Hz would be just perfect. Big enough resolution to for a lot of screen space, small enough to not be forced to scale like a retard.

Plan on using it for games and movies, should have more than enough GPU to use 4K to it's full potential.
>>
>falling for the >60hz meme

it would have merit if 'flicker' were still a thing
>>
Are 4K laptop monitors a meme?
>>
>>61239018
Yes, specially if it's a "gamer" laptop with hardware that is only capable of playing Quake at that resolution

You hit the point of diminishing returns hard for gaming at 4K depending on your monitor size and viewing distance.
For just general everyday use having a high dpi is nice for reading text and fitting more on a screen.
I might have been better off going for 1440@144Hz 27~28" strikes a nice balance between refresh rate and dpi, don't know if they sell good IPS panels with those specifications.
I Don't think I'd see much of a difference between 4K and a 1440 27" at 0.5m viewing distance, the frame rate increase would definitely be more noticeable and might come in handy when watching videos shot at 24fps since it is a direct multiple. Scaling 1080p to 1440 might not look as good though.

>flicker
It's about the blur, not flicker.

I thought the new 10 series they're stuffing into these new ones are more than capable. Looking at a laptop with twin 1070's and a 4K monitor.
>>
need both
greater resolution to differentiate triangles and higher refresh for higher refresh

shame all the overclockable korean monitors are all bought out near me
it was something like 320 bucks for a PLS 1440p monitor plus a 120hz board
>>
I want a 28" 4k who has good panels
>>
>>61239669
The screen size on a laptop is too small. You're going to have to scale everything by 200%, which will look like crap, and destroy the whole point of having that many pixels.
>>
>>61238890
>double the framerate or quadruple the resolution
id take the pixels, 1080p is unusable
>>
2x AA a 1080p 120hz

4kfags on suicide watch
>>
4k 60hz = 1080p 240hz
>>
>>61238890
1440p@75Hz

4k monitor then, definitely

movies look great in 4k
