The data? Some of it yeah, you can also just make a partition spanning the non defective sectors but seeing as the first ones are fucked you'll have to do some trickery to make Windows ignore or install the 100mb partition somewhere else (it's always in the first sectors)

There is no way partition changes could break your hdd, it definitely was the drop.
