Yeah but when you change your modem you have to call your isp first for them to configure it with their parameters, if you try to connect a new modem without the knowledge of your isp it won't connect to the internet.

I installed a new router without calling my ISP and without MAC spoofing, it worked like that.
Authentification is made though a PPPoE login/password
I don't know how it works in the Land of Freedom(tm).
