So I've been fixing up (really just cleaning and refreshing) a PS3 controller and now right on my D-pad doesn't work. Can't figure why, it seems to be pressing right, it's positioned correctly, etc. Anyone got any sense?
Also general fixing/modding/etc thread
It sounds like >>>/diy/ would be more helpful.
install gentoo
>>61213753
Unscrew it and seat the membrane properly?
>>61213780
Have done. I'll try again I guess.
>>61213765
Maybe? I figure it's technology. I quite like taking things apart and messing with them. Figured others here would too.
>>61213776
PS3 is already running gentoo. First thing I tried.
>>61213798
>Maybe? I figure it's technology
No, /g/ doesn't know shit about technology. It's mainly consumer electronics shit here.
/diy/ is much better for these sorts of things.
>>61213824
True but I figure consoles are the maximum consumer electronic. Next to iphones I guess.
Update: it's a problem with the controller board itself.
I rotated the d-pad buttons and the membrane and it's still a problem on the right d-pad.
Fuck. This is gonna be more involved.
>>61213869
If you take out the membrane and connect it does it keep pressing right?
>>61213753
these things are a nightmare to fix, I disassembled at least a few before and had problems putting them together every single time. every single time it was some retarded thing like the trigger not working at all even though it's seated perfectly, buttons ghost pressing themselves etc.
fuck around with it some more, otherwise write it off. Sony probably made them pajeet-tier quality on purpouse.
>>61213878
Well the problem is that it isn't pressing right. At all. Guess I can try taking it apart again and fucking with it.
>>61213878
Just tried it and no. The rest of them work fine. The right one does not. Wondering if it just needs some kinda cleaning.
>>61213924
Gonna have to try to figure out how to fix the board itself. Fuck.
Anyone else fixing/modding controllers? Let's not just make this thread about my bullshit.
I've been meaning to build an arcade stick.

> Anyone else fixing/modding controllers?
I disassembled it once to fix phantom presses and assembled it back. Not much of a deal, it's repairable.
Grab an eraser (like onthe end of a pencil) and lightly clean the metal contact on the PCB under the membrane to remove any gunk. Could also try pure alcohol on a qtip.
>>61213753
Chuck this thread over on /v/ and see if anyone there has experience fixing controllers. /g/ doesn't respond well to gaming threads.
>>61214009
I'll give that a go. I don't have a pencil/eraser or pure alchohol right now. Will try it later.
>>61214050
Truthfully no one here has been unpleasant or unhelpful. And it's not like I'm never on /g/. Just more occasional than constant.
