You do probably need a new motherboard and CPU because the Core 2 Quad is 9 years old now, and you'll need some new RAM as well since nothing modern takes DDR2. But you don't need to spend $500 to get that.

I would look for a used business PC with a newer Core i5 or i7, which should cost $200-300, and then just move your graphics card into that.

If you're gonna go for used, look for refurbished PCs on eBay. Get something with sandy bridge CPU. If you're gonna go new, buy a G4560, B250 motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

It depends on how you define "decent" and if you have any ability whatsoever to piece yourself together something used. If you want to play the latest and greatest AAA games on Ultra then he has a point (though your card can't do that). But you can also do drop down to $350 for only a small hit.
The G4560 the other anon suggested would also be a huge improvement, and you can get i5 2400 business PCs with a PSU that can handle your card for $110 used, which should be overall similar.

But I'd troubleshoot your current system. Your results said:

 Very high background CPU (38%). High background CPU reduces benchmark accuracy. Find active processes with Windows task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC).

Run it again clean and check your temps with HWInfo.
The Q6600 is getting very long in the tooth now but if it's working right it shouldn't be absolutely terrible for everything. What Alienware do you have? If your mobo supports a 12MB cache Core2Quad you may have the option of a VERY cheap drop-in replacement that could very well get you by just fine.
