Stop with this stupid meme. Pic related is telemetry in Windows 7 and it's opt-in, disabled by default.

Meanwhile there is NO official way to turn off telemetry in 10.

Wow great argument fagtron you sure convinced me with those hot opinions.

W7 was the last "good" version of Windows and it didn't come with any buttnut unless you installed specific Windows Updates released during/after the W8 lifetime. It used to be my daily driver until I switched to GNU+Linux, and even now I prefer it to W10. If I have to dual boot a system with an x64 CPU, I'll definitely slap in W7. W10 is cancer and even the U.S. government is trying to get away from it by tempering with BSD-derived operating systems.

HAHAH, fuck you, fucking shill. last night, I tried to change the taskbar icons to not group and hide text and I got a literal fucking bluescreen at the exact same moment I changed the setting from the dropdown menu. 30 minutes later, I was playing some shitty videogame and got booted off because of an update (system literally rebooted itself with no option to cancel). I got so fucking mad I smashed my Win 7 USB in and reformatted all of my drives (even the ones without the OS present, just to be sure) and went back to 7. installed updates the important updates, turned them off and am as happy as ever with my fresh install of 7.

I almost had enough when I tried to install a torrent client and a big popup told me NAH BRO INSTALL IT FROM THE STORE LMOA!!, but this was too much.

FUCK windows 10 and FUCK microsoft, if I ever have to switch from 7 im going Linux.

Also better for gaming, better for upcoming drivers. Windows 7 is 8 years old its tired....

it IS faster. a lot of it has to do with the dumping of the monstruosity that is .net 3.5 and a lighter windows updates (but that may simply be because it doesn't have 8 years worth of updates to check and build a dependency tree every time)

Task manager is a lot better.
Copy/move operations will first complete everything that can be completed without user input (e.g. overwriting)
Compared to stopping for every file which might mean that a long operation will pause half-way while you're away.
It can natively run linux applications.
Window decorations aren't ugly and don't have rounded corners.
>>
win 7 user here, the only thing I am interested in 10 is this:

did microsoft finally fucking add confirmation windows for copying, pasting, moving files, and also show exactly what the undo function will do? currently it's just for example "undo delete" and when you press it, who the fuck knows what it just undeleted, who remembers that shit

8.1:

Is more stable
It's finished, meaning you are not beta testing the system
Has nicer looks
Is faster
It's still supported despite its obscurity, and will be for more years than Windows 7
Can restore the old explorer back without any trouble
Can tinker with system files without much trouble either
Has a simple way of accessing the superior control panel, even though it has some secondary settings panel
Pretty much every decent feature from 10 that's not available on 7 is available on 8.1

You can safely ignore anyone who posts vague meaningless shit like "faster". "Smoother" is another one that got posted a lot by pajeet shills.

Objectively speaking there is very very little difference in terms of performance. An OS will usually leave the CPU/GPU/drives to do their job, so performance isn't affected.

So you have to decide based on UI changes (it has pros and cons there) and on other aspects (bundled ads, telemetry, less control over updates, bugs...).

How about choosing which updates you want / choosing not to update at all, instead of delaying the inevitable

>"vague"
Everytime, every single time they decide "hey let's make a new big update that brings some new features" they manage to create new shit to worry about. At least this didn't happen so often with Windows 7 / 8.1. In those, in most cases updates meant fixes, not "the ability to paint turds on 3D and show ads on the goddamn calculator"

And yes it is vague, because it's completely fucking unpredictable shit. Still after all these years I still get this thing where clicking on the start button just works sometimes, not always. Maybe I'll open the start menu for you, maybe I won't. Who knows!

>everything other than Settings looks better
>from the current decade
Paint confirmed for the current professional graphic design tool of this decade apparently

Seriously though we get the flat meme but it's done quite terribly on Windows 10. They haven't even fixed the fucking font rendering. Apple doesn't move away from their own design, Google attempts to make everything a bit more cohesive and consistent, meanwhile Microsoft is like "hmm, maybe next update we'll put a different set of icons! maybe this one will have this windows 7 effect! what about this apple thing too? we'll just throw everything in who cares"

>runs both windows and linux applications
Call me when the only thing that I see on Windows 10 that's "windows" is the third party software

First off, why the fuck would you think that, except for very sensitive illegal material, they would give two fucks?

Second, why would they even reveal this to the public by publishing these thousands of articles? Why would media outlets try this shit? Remember the whole FBI vs Apple nonsense? That was proven fake left and right. Mainstream media won't bother with this to ruin Microsoft's reputation.

If you're so tech savvy why haven't you utilized wireshark extensively to see what's going on? You don't need news sites, bloggers or anons to tell you.

Well that's hard to argue with since you don't have anything to back it up with but

>How about choosing which updates you want / choosing not to update at all, instead of delaying the inevitable
I didn't encounter a situation where I'd want to do anything other than installing all currently available updates at whichever time I find convenient.

>vague bugs
I didn't encounter any that caused me issues.

>flat meme
Honestly all I care about is one pixel window borders and blank titlebars.

>Call me when the only thing that I see on Windows 10 that's "windows" is the third party software
I'm not sure if I understand what you mean but all of my three screens are currently completely filled with third party software and if it weren't for the scrollbars and window decorations you wouldn't be able to tell it's Windows.
I use Windows not because it's Windows but because of the software it supports.

I honestly don't mind Windows 10 from a technical perspective. They've been improving the UI and window management features, and for the most part it's faster and more stable than 7.
What's unacceptable is that the OS acts like it knows what's best for me, nagging me to use Edge, disallowing me from opting out of data collection, transmitting data to and from remote servers without my consent. I don't think I'll ever use it, and with how much Wine is improving, I may never have to.

Every version has about 4 different features that do the exact same thing that are just holdovers from various old versions of Windows. Windows literally still shipped with the program manager from 3.x until Vista, for example. I guarantee if they removed the old features you'd be bitching about how they changed everything and broke your software instead.

Windows has been botnet (moreso than normal for a proprietary OS) ever since Vista, friend. You are sacrificing just as much privacy using 7 as you would be using 8 or 10, the only difference is your OS is almost 10 years old and is almost abandonware.

Can you show me where in the source code it actually honors the user's choice in this dialog? No? Then don't try and claim it does.

See "moreso than normal for a proprietary OS"
Windows has always been botnet but they really started ramping it up around Vista

It's the same spying, forced-updates bullshit as at launch, anon. Saying it's better than W8 is complete crap as an argument, given that W10 doesn't manage to correct back to W7.

Do you know what that means? They are literally the same.

Yes, clearly in my post labeling every Windows operating system as privacy-invading malware I was suggesting you should install Windows 10. I was calling the Wintards who argue amongst each other as if any of them are less a part of the botnet than the other idiots. Get some reading comprehension skills.

Just installed this on a t520, and my battery says plugged in, not charging. It's a genuine battery, and I've tried all the shit I can google. Who wants to be my tech support? My other SSD has xubuntu, if there is no fix I'll switch back...

Suggest the best OS for gaymen. From the thread I think many are saying 10 but what's the best version of Win 7 (to pirate)

Better power management (+ features like battery saver)
MUCH better memory management
New, better task manager
Less HDD use (~5GB after fresh install and disabled hiberfile)
More secure (WinRT sandbox)
Better scaling
Full control over comm devices, no need to install 3rd party trash to do simple things like enabling or disabling wwan networking
DX12
No need for external antivirus, literally best antivirus solution on the market
Better support for eGPUs
Much, much more.

>Better power management (+ features like battery saver)
Like you have a choice on laptops. You will have literally no drivers if you jump to 7 on a 10 laptop
>MUCH better memory management
Windows has a smaller and smaller memory footprint the further back you go. Memory management is irrelevant when you use half the memory of your replacement.
>New, better task manager
It is amazing how useful telling the user where the program is located is.
>Less HDD use (~5GB after fresh install and disabled hiberfile)
Yeah, 7 is stupid huge at ~20 gigs but storage is stupid cheap too.
>More secure (WinRT sandbox)
Windows? Secure?
>Better scaling
Still garbage without third party interaction.
>Full control over comm devices, no need to install 3rd party trash to do simple things like enabling or disabling wwan networking
The compatibility is a gift and a curse as it BSODs installing a driver you didn't want it to.
>DX12
Yeah, that's coming along but Source Engine is still DX9. So your two biggest games on PC DotA 2 and CS:GO still use only DX9.
>No need for external antivirus, literally best antivirus solution on the market
An ad blocker is still your best antivirus since XP.
>Better support for eGPUs
Literal what, like I don't even care to google.
>Much, much more.

Why do you care? Let them remain on Windows 7 with disabled system updates. They are so paranoid by security updates from Microsoft that they become the low hanging fruit for hackers and malicious software.
>>
>>61182373
Yes, it is better and most likely fine.

However, the fact that you simply cannot opt out of many of its online functions is unacceptable.

Its like your car going to the shop at night completely on its on and theres nothing you can do about. Yes, in order to operate a car legally you need to take it to the shop and to registration at some point, but that still remains YOUR decision, unlike with windows.
>>
>>61182373
I sincerely doubt this. I am honestly considering a switch from Windows 10 to Windows 7. The only downside is that Windows 7 loses support in 2020 and that isn't that far away. I would be better off switching to Windows 8.1.

The vulnerability had been patched in March. The reason those computers were infected was not because of Windows 7 but because these were enterprise computers that were never updated.

Furthermore: even if it were true that Windows 10 was inherently more secure than Windows 7, it is Microsoft's responsibility to secure all their supported operating systems. It has never been in Microsoft's interests to allow a botnet fester on systems running their operating system.

TLDR Kill yourself

I can confirm this with wireshark and even simpler stuff like tcpview.
My W7 machine never connects to somewhere if I leave it running for hours on end alone.
My W10 machine connects every fucking second to the ms servers right after booting without me doing anything. These aren't updates, it sends filenames. Source: wireshark. Just fucking install, start it and just see it. You do not even have to wait longer than 5 seconds you fucking mongoloid.
If you have seen enough connection-spam you can stop and look more into what has been sent. Half of the traffic isn't even encrypted.
Why should be post videos/webms about it? We had that and not many believed it. The only people that start to believe it is if they can see it for themself on their machines and fucking wireshark is the simplest solution.
