I have something similar on my Sapphire R9 280X
one of the fans broke and replacements wouldve taken too long to arrive (not cheap either) so I bought a couple cheap 92mm fans from ebay, drilled some small holes in the shroud and secured the fans in place with some stolen cable ties. Strangely I didn't think to use more cable ties to secure the fan cables so they're floating around inside my pc.

coupled with replacing the thermal paste (necessary since I couldn't remove the shroud without removing the heatsink) it works much better, now much quieter though runs hot - 30C above ambient at idle

I just recently altered this stock fan on my CPU as it was horribly loud about 9 months from building. I removed the black plastic fan part, just clips off by hand, and unclipped a master cooler fan, again just the plastic fan part, and since switching out just that horrible stock fan my computer is soooo much quieter and CPU is idling at 25-30 again.

Sorry for my poor English but I believe the metal heatsink part is actually good quality but the plastic fan part is shit and will not last long.

What confuses me is these people are legally allowed to operate motor vehicles and heavy machinery but the concept of silicon turns their brain to mush. I don't know what it is but computer in particular turned educated adults into retards.

Then again i've woprked in a job teaching computer literacy to retired individuals and you can spot inside of 30 minutes those that engage theirt brain and wish to learn and those that don't. One dude learnt to use a compter competantly because he was interested in learning his family history and that mean using websites and the like. On the otherh and one woman spent 6 months using a truly idiot friendly GUI and was asking day 1 questions at the end of it.

It is stories like yours and my own experience why I legitimately passed up opportunities to get into tech support to work as a labourer on a building site because it made me happier as a person - the difference in salary was not worth it. Despite being promoted to work in the office luckily the company I work for has very basic IT needs and all the setup shit has been handled before I got involved. That said i'm still known as the IT guy so when anything stops working they ask me (fuck sake Dave I told you press this, this and this to print A3 colour).

I suppose the flipside for me personally is that despite working for a carpentry contractor I don't know shit about it which probably frustrates my co-workers.
