Not if you want to do amazing lighting systems.
>>
>>61156697
No, since any 2D engine you would use has OpenGL underneath anyway.
And it's not too hard to simply display textures at given coordinates on a plane either.
>>
not OP, but what are some C++ topics you would recommend knowing before tackling a graphics library like SFML or OpenGL? I'm in a weird spot where I already know all the stuff gone over in "basic" c++ tutorials, but at the same time any tutorial, book etc. that begins with a graphics library goes over my head pretty quickly

SFML is awesome, mind I use the C port so I don't know if there's something better for c++ exclusively, but for C it's literally the best graphics library for anything 2D
>>
SDL is better than SFML.

Wrong
>>

there's nothing that can prepare you for using a graphics library except using a graphics library
and they can be pretty confusing
I suggest using something simpler like a higher level library that wraps around OpenGL or something like Allegro

Looks like a total piece of shit

It looks like it was made by some hack neckbeard who spent 2 days on the game and then proceeded to fire up photoshop and wank his dick over the faggy visuals for a couple years

SDL2
>>
>>61156604
Yes, I've used it for a fully finished network game and it's the best library for the job. The API is also very easy to understand (much easier than SDL).
>>
>>61156995

That game looks so fucking terrible that it makes me want to puke.

if you are manually placing pixels by assigning RGB values from a CPU directly to the screen, you could never do anything remotely fast.

Unless you are making some weird niche shit like that one game that is kind of based off DnD, don't even bother.

I bet your game is ass if you think SDL is remotely difficult
