Got a new computer today. Set everything up. Have spent hours trying to get the Ethernet up so I can get internet but nothing's worked so far.

Try an Ubuntu liveUSB to make sure your hardware is working properly. If that works (and if you were using Windows before) you might just need a driver or something. A reinstall wouldn't hurt either if it's a prebuilt.

Yeah, Windows is a pretty fucked OS and sometimes that's your best bet.

Compare the ip config from a working device to this non working one. Make sure your subnets are the same if both devices are wired (usually). Try and ping an ip in the subnet your gateway assigns and if nothing is using it assign it to yourself. Don't trust the router to give you the righy config since it hasn't yet.

Right. I think it might be a router issue. Everything on it is green except for the one with the bars over the symbol.
