I just noticed that my Xubuntu install is possibly phoning home

I never setup Google's DNS at all or any google bullshit on my computer but it's showing up for some reason in Wireshark.

(I removed all the other entries that were not important and I also removed the IPs)

Is your browser open?

There was a problem with systemd calling google DNS, do you have the systemd-resolver or whatever is called enabled?
>>
So configure it to use your own self-hosted DNS.

Are you looking for a serious answer here or are you just looking to get trolled? I can't actually tell.

This is a local MDNS discovery packed from a Chromecast. You likely have some Chromecast, Chromecast Built-in device, or device with the YouTube TV app on the same network as you.

Taking one look at your source MAC address, it's probably a Samsung TV.

I don't have a chromecast or any device that can connect to Google.
>>
>>61135918
I have no smart tvs in my home though.
>>
>>61135933
But do you have any Samsung devices at all on your network? Speakers or TVs, both will be using the same base Chromecast discovery methods in their YouTube apps, even if they're not running that app at the time.

It's used so you can hit the cast button in the YouTube mobile app and it automatically opens YouTube on your TV to play that video.

>blocks out src and dest ip in packet list
>leave both + the mac address visible in the packet information table

Good job OP.

Point it out.

I don't care.
>>
Where do you get the idea its phone google or whatever. The destination address is multicast on the local network. Your packet isnt even leaving the network.
>>
>>61136241
Why is the google name there then?
>>
>>61136098
Google is not 'phoning home', Avahi just works like this

>>61136409
