Hello,
sorry in advance if it's already been posted.

Has any of you seen this review?
I found it interesting because it's the only one that delved on the implication of the new architecture and the lack of L3.

Others focused mainly on the more videoludic aspects of the platform, even though it's meant primarily for a prosumer market.

Please feel free to share your input :)

Oh boy, here we go.

A few people around here have talked about the changes to the cache and how it causes some performance regressions with Broadwell-E.

Frankly he doesn't even have the cpus himself so he's just reading off AnandTech's.

Interestingly though he mentions he makes 100k €uros off his "interl videos" but with not further details such as timeframe or if it's just those specific vids vs all channel.
>>
>>61112026
Yes, AdoredTV is the only person on the internet who's ever said anything negative about Skylake-X.
>>61111960
Alright I watched the whole thing. All he really does is point out the change in cache on Skylake-X causes it to win and lose in more places.

I dont undestand why intel did that?
Is it just to save money $$$$
>>
>>61112496
No, they moved the cache to L2 instead. Supposed to be better for server workloads.
>>
>>61112523
It's mostly for AVX-512.
>>
There's another video where he talks about the Tomshardware review and ringbus vs. mesh, memory latency, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKfP8TEKqQU

Ok.
But 7900x and below don't benefit at all and in fact got their perf gimped by it in some scenarios it seems vs Broadwell_E

Accessing L2 cache is faster than L3 cache, so the more L2 cache you have, the less of a need there is to look into the slower L3 cache and memory.
>why not have a bunch of L2 cache then?
They're expensive to design, take up a lot of precious die space directly next to each core, and can be subject to cache misses if they get too large.
Intel made theirs larger because the L2 cache is shared between all cores as part of the mesh bus they've created for Skylake-X. Theoretically, this allows faster access to L2 caches throughout the CPU no matter where the fetch originated from compared to chucking into the shared L3 cache. They shrunk the L3 cache to make room for that (and because the larger L2 cache would negate the need for having such a large L3 cache, at least in theory).

Buy the 7900x goy it only consumes 360w @ 4.7
with a measly 300$ custom loop and 300$ motherboard.

1600$ and all this could be yours.

These are four dies on one package, so it's two cores cut off from each CCX. Fuck, four dies and they still can sell it for $650? Holy shit.
What the fuck, is full TR less than $1000? I might go all in with TR and wait until Zen's last iteration for an upgrade for my last silicon chip.
>>
>>61113490
Pricing hasn't been revealed but it's likely to cost around the same as the Epyc 16 core.
>>
>>61113505
So the best TR is gonna cost 650$? No way in hell. Where do the lower ones fit?
They have to cost more than the Ryzen 1800x obviously.

Says "Starting at", not the final pricing on the highest end 16 core.
>>
>>61113623
you didn't say "around the same as the *highest end* 16 core" though.
>>
>>61113623
>one socket
>$750
Well shit. Maybe 16 core TR will be $900.
>>
>>61113623
who gives a shit about the highest end 16 core though? As with Ryzen, there's gonna be minimal difference between high and low end. 1700 is basically a 1800X.
>>
>>61113623
However it would make sense for TR 16 core top and EPYC 7351p equivalent to cost around the same price?
So 750$ or so

UNLESS TR has a premium bc of better bin and higher clocks or generally a more expensive process
>>
>>61113670
EPYC 1socket 8 core costs $475 whereas the 1700 and 1800x now cost $300 and $450 respectively. It is very possible that we could see a 16 core Threadripper at around $700. The problem is too much segmentation. Where will 10-14 cores fit? If it's too much, they will bump the price more. They have no reason to be based with prices since they can murder Skylake-X with their 16 core alone.

>>
>>61113739
kek, keep them coming. They're just hilarious at this point.
>>
>>61113729
They could cut Ryzen's prices no?
Is R3 even a thing anyway?

I've heard anons talk about slashing the 1400 price to around 80$ to murder intel on the cheapo segment utterly.
1500x=100$
1600=140$
1600x=170$
1700=240$
1800x=300ish

And you can fit all TR above that and have prices in line with EPYC's and intel=
>>
>>61113813
Rumors are R3s are delayed because they don't have enough binned dies to make them in enough quantity.
>>
>>61113828
well they should just scrap the entire series and so what I just suggested
>>
>>61113748
lol my name is Brian too :3
>>
>>61113897
Not sure they'd even be making a profit at that point. Ryzen 3 still slated for Q3 2017. If we don't see it then, we know it's canned. I'd like to see Ryzen 3 launch at $100 for the cheapest model, that'd be a better option than G4560.

Listen up, dumbfuck:

In the industry standard test used to measure how a CPU scales, AMD's Zen architecture demonstrated that it scales at 1.99 from 8c/16t to 16c/32t.

The 16-core Threadripper also has so much larger and more massive a heat spreader that it highly unlikely that it will be heat limited in its clocks. That means AMD can slap two 1800x's at 3.6/4.0ghz into one package and call it a day.

And since the 1800x scores ~1,600 in Cinebench R15 that means that the top 16-core Threadripper is going to score around ~3,100-3,200, and thereby instantly dumpster every single Skymeme-X SKU including the upcoming thermonuclear 18-core (which scores less than 3,000 in its existing Xeon Gold form).

the 7900x @4.6 scores 2,951 in Cinebench R15, so you're utterly and devastatingly wrong.

Now imagine the 12,14,16,20 core Skylake-X.

This is the 18 core Xeon the 18 core i9 will be based on. Either they raise the clockspeeds and watts to truly insane levels, or it loses to 16 core TR which will get a score of ~3200.

Raising the watts would also require them to put out a new motherboard revision, since the older X299 boards wouldn't even be able to handle it.
