Is anyone here honestly looking to pay $1000 for an 8 core 16 thread CPU?
>>
>>61105524
Yes, I'm buying four of them.

Why are you so mad? AMD shills in full force. Post your coordinates and we'll save you from those call centers.

The 10 core 20 thread is $1000
The 8 core 16 thread is "only" $600 (still not worth it)
>>
>>61105564
So you are ok with 28 pci express lanes?
>>
>>61105564
desu the 7820X is probably going to be a massive leap over the 1800X, like 20% across the board.

price/perf isn't good but it's not outrageous either.

There are already benchmarks for the i9-7820X. Just like the i9-7900X, the performance increases by 25% and the power draw increases by 35% to compensate.

For the cost of one i9-7820X system, you could build two R7 1700 systems.
>>
>>61105661
Fuck, said i9-7820X when it's i7-7820X, I can't keep all these goddamn CPUs straight.
>>
>>61105661
but I don't want to use 2 systems at once now do I?

anyway, these graphs are actually bad news for Intel assuming Cinebench is congruent with other workloads
>>
>>61105815
>but I don't want to use 2 systems at once now do I?
Point is the price/performance is just as bad as with the i9-7900X.

The fact that AMD's mainstream platform is even in contention with Intel's brand new shiny HEDT platform should be cause for concern. If Threadripper is even half as good as expected, X299 is pretty much done.
>>
>>61105911
What's expected of thread ripper?
>>
>>61105958
3200 cinebrunch score on the 16 core model at stock clocks. For under $1000.
>>
>>61105958
basically Ryzen with double the coars and insane I/O.

perf will depend on how it clocks but if Epyc is any indication, it shouldn't have any trouble landing in the same range as the R7 chips do.
>>
>>61105977
Explain. Put things in perspective.

Is 3200 a good score? What does it currently take to get 3200 score?

What would stock clocks be?

Who is the market for this CPU, who needs 16 cores?
>>
>>61105815
Actually Cinnebench is Intel's best-case workload, in a bunch of others it's sometimes slower than Broadwell
>>
>What does it currently take to get 3200 score?
High end Xeon that costs several thousand bux.
>What would stock clocks be?
Probably 3.5 GHz
>Who is the market for this CPU, who needs 16 cores?
Any workload that scales with core count like 3D rendering/modeling, video encoding, compiling, etc.
>>
>>61106053
>Any workload that scales with core count like 3D rendering/modeling, video encoding, compiling, etc

Ok thats what the CPU can do, I have an Idea of who can make use of this CPU. Can you tell me specifically? Companies, content creators on youtube, freelancers?

I am under the impression that if its some company, they will have the money to just get the best Intel chip and any price to have a productive office.
>>
>>61106003
3200 is a pretty massive score. My 4.0GHz 1700X gets ~1750 IIRC.
>>
>>61105564
Not worth it? How?
Seems pretty reasonable, I'm sure as hell going for at least the 16 thread one in my upcoming build
>>
https://chiru.no/u/average_intel_owner.webm
>>
>>61106149
Because you can get 8/16 ryzen for half the price, or even less when you factor in the motherboard?
>>
>>61106149
>I'm sure as hell going for at least the 16 thread one in my upcoming build
By the time those Xeon rejects show up on the market, Threadripper will have been out and already obsoleted them before they're even released.
>>
>>61106118
Companies are either going to be looking at Epyc or Xeon workstations, and currently Epyc looks to be kicking Xeons right in the teeth.
>>
>>61106118
Sure because companies love to just spend money for little value, while outsourcing your job to Bangalore to save a few bucks. Or maybe they buy AMD for half the price and have a competent employee they can actually ask things at the water cooler..
>>
>>61105661
1700X not 1700, who has time for the fucking lottery?
>>
>>61106149
Don't forget the AC for that housefire.
Threadripper is going to rape Skylake-X.
>>
>>61106118
...but almost all modern productivity based software are only optimized for 6 cores. This may change if threadripper hits off at a good price, but for now, Ryzen 5 is actually the best value for productivity.
>>
>>61105524
I've been buying intel for 20 years and i will never stop buying, best performance no matter the cost. Amd has always been the weird poor man's choice
>>
>>61106489
>weird poor man's choice
You're retarded. More people care about price/performance than a measly 25% faster performance at the cost of 35% higher power draw and twice the price.
>>
>>61106489
>he hasn't heard about Ryzen
>>
>>61106489
Instead of just shouting out blind hate, I'll explain calmly. Brand attachment is how they milk you out of your money. For the longest time I've been using Intel as well, because it was simply the better product. Things are different now, AMD's quality is arguably better, even at a cheaper cost than Intel. High clocks have no value in the real world anymore. Either stay a broke sheep or learn to adapt to what's worth your money.
>>
>>61106558
he's right you know.
No matter the cost=intel has higher performance

inb4 muh ryzen 1700vs7700k, I can just get a 7820k and pwn anything from the ryzen line
>>
Can't wait for actual release, just so that someone actually tries aircooling this shit.
Remember kids, Ryzen doesn't need a fucking custom loop.
>>
>>61106483
Ryzen 5 is not fast enough. Better spend slightly more to get an i7.7800X.
>>
>>61106436
>implying the lottery is a thing on ryzen 7

99.9% of them fall within 3.8-4ghz
>>
>>61106662
>50% more on cpu
>200%more on mothereboard.
>Infinity % more on cooling.

'slightly more' Intel Edition.
>>
>>61106662
Unironically true.
7800x=just 389$
>>
>>61106610
The fact that comparing Intel's HEDT to AMD's mainstream is even a thing should tell you Intel is in trouble. You know most reviewers are just saying "Wait for Threadripper" anyway, right?
>>
>>61106692
The i7-7800X is slower than a 1700 at stock. And that's before mobo/cooler costs. Nobody is going to buy that shit over a Ryzen 5 or 7.

My guess is the same margin of the 7700kvs1800x are gonna exist for SkylakeXvsTT
and you'll have the same price/perf on AMD's side.

Still we're talking about NO PRICE CONCERN baka
>>
Oh boy, the big dick money spenders have showed up to tell us all how baller they are for wasting their money on overpriced, overheating Intel housefires. Do you fucking dipshits wear gold chains around your necks as well?
>>
>>61106760
The 16 core threadripper is expected to land within the 3100-3200 range for Cinebench scores, while costing less than $1000. And it will XFR to 4.1 GHz. Buying Intel at that point becomes nothing more than pure fanboyism.
>>
>>61106766

I fken sweat away all week for my hard earned ca$h and then come on /g/ just to have these NEETS sh*t on my life choices.
And my intel setup I'm so proud of.

Sad.
