Point is the price/performance is just as bad as with the i9-7900X.

The fact that AMD's mainstream platform is even in contention with Intel's brand new shiny HEDT platform should be cause for concern. If Threadripper is even half as good as expected, X299 is pretty much done.

For the longest time I've been using Intel as well, because it was simply the better product. Things are different now, AMD's quality is arguably better, even at a cheaper cost than Intel. High clocks have no value in the real world anymore. Either stay a broke sheep or learn to adapt to what's worth your money.
