Is an r9 390 and am i5 4590 combo too unbalanced?

Looking to either get a 1080 and keep the i5, or get an i7 and keep the 390

I dunno what you think is wrong with it. The i5 is a little long in the tooth but will run most games on high or ultra. The 390 is in the exact same boat. Seems pretty balanced.
