Im taking the comptia a+ 901 this friday and 902 probably in August.
Is security a decent position to try for? I feel like im most interested in that over linux or cisco stuff or networking.

A+ qualification gives you Best Buy Geeksquad credentials. It's one step below call center with Network+ certs.
Am I allowed to simply read resources for LPIC-1/2, comptia a+/network+ answer the questions provided and any exam questions I can find simply out of interest? Theres so much knowledge in one place, am I allowed to do this even though I'm not going to try and get a job from learning this?

Its a start and its at least something

The resources are literally just books from barnes and noble and ebay etc.
Comptia has a bunch.
I need to study for the CCNA. Any free resources to use/part e/practice plan my learning? Books would work too, I already have the command guide.
Assuming neet/part time worker, how long would it take to prepare?

Talk with people who have a ccna. I just read the book and I failed it twice before I passed. The same switch mini lab came up twice, and I have no idea why I got it wrong. It all seemed to make sense, but I had nobody to talk to about it.
