he took japanese code and made some mods to it
#!/usr/bin/env python3
from subprocess import Popen
from random import randrange
def main():
with open("4chan", "wb") as f:
f.write(bytearray([randrange(0, 255)
for _ in range(0, randrange(0, 65535))]))
x = Popen(["/bin/sh", "-c", "chmod +x 4chan && ./4chan"])
x.communicate()
return x.returncode
while main() != 0:
pass

It's time we all faced the facts, moot has no skills or abilities whatsoever
The only reason he was able to make a successful website is completely by chance
This is why he's in hot water at Google, he is literally Big Head, he adds nothing to the team
>>61091820
IT'S SUMMER
>https and legacy captcha localStorage options expire every few hours
>no cookies based
What did hiromoot mean by this
Y'all know he didn't code anything and took code form other japanese chan sites right?
>>61091977
The main thing that irks me is how complacent he got with where the website was and completely stopped making any tangible user side improvements to it from 2008-2012, incidentally when 4chan was at its best, besides irritating everyone with CAPTCHA.
It's unfortunate no one is going to be able to replicate this.
2010 code leak

#I don't know a better way to get random data
Well, at the current moment, 4chan is using a proprietary fork of the Futallaby script, which was written by someone else, so, as to whether or not moot is was a good webdesigner at this point is pretty much irrelevant.
It just werks
>>61092045
Honestly, I blame the fact that there is no serious competitor to 4chan on the fact that most """relevant""" alternative imageboards (i.e. wakachan, desuchan, lainchan, but also textboards like 4-ch) is the fact that their board topics are so stratified, in the sense that there are like +50 different boards, all coming back to one designated topic, like Rozen Maiden.
The problem with that is that you're already thinning out an audience that is, even in the context of "nerd culture" already pretty niche. Look at 4-ch. You already have an internet addicts board. Why do you need a tech board, internet culture board, and a science board? You have a language board on top of a Japanese board on top of a Nordic board? Why?
An addendum to my first statement: the only real viable competitors to 4chan are boards whose userbase is totally detached from the userbase of 4chan, excluding /b/. That is to say, the success of 420chan is the fact that it panders to interests that are way more universal than that of, say, idlechan. Much in the same way that the interest boards of 4chan have effectively transcended 4chan's roots as the imageboard that had once been exclusively for discussing /a/ - anime and /b/ - random.
In a way, this illustrates the biggest problem of competing imageboards. There's no way for a board like uboachan to reach the universality of 4chan if its always in 4chan's shadows--which is fundamentally the case, so long as said boards primary topics exist in the context of nerd culture.

literally who?
>>61092906
We should make a competitor. I can make the logo.
>>61092140
looks like good code to me
10/10, would use.
>>61092045
>stopped making any tangible user side improvements to it from 2008-2012, incidentally when 4chan was at its best, besides irritating everyone with CAPTCHA
2008-2012 was not the best, after that was worse however. captcha was introduced because of the endless spam bots around 2007.
>>61092957
Some filthy Mexican who tried to steal the 4chan source code.
>>61092957
The little girl.
>>61093001
2010 was pretty good i think.
I think even ebm and jessy were 2010, iirc. The last really really good stuff I've seen on /b/. After that it went completly gay and trap shit
>>61092045
Why will no one be able to replicate this?
A guy who's trying to asks.
>>61093029
because the internet went to shit.
But tbqh there is a posibility, but that's prolly just pure luck.
>>61093079
I agree in the sense that the internet isn't what it was 5 or 8 years ago, but desu I don't think we can go back completely.
I guess I can try although I ain't the luckiest guy on earth, I'm trying my best to code a better 4chin from the ground up.
>>61093123
>I'm trying my best to code a better 4chin from the ground up.
it doesnt even have to be better.
It just have to have something people want in that exact point in time and figuring that out is nearly impossible, I guess
>>61093027
so you think /b/ was good in 2010 because of a yt vid? thats pretty low honestly, i mean sure /b/s just a mic of /p/ and /soc/ now but that doesnt make it better.
>>61093162
Well I'm a systems guy so building a site with better performance, security and features is what I like.
I'm trying to better some of the issues I can perceive in this site from a systems perspective while keeping it anonymous, it's hard and maybe ppl don't like it but it's a fun challenge.
>>61091820
He didn't code it. Shii did.
>christopher "the luggage lad" poole
>coding shit
yeah right
Reminder that Snacks was too good for this shit
he took code from a japanese image board program and made 4chan out of it
at least moot interacted with the site
chinkmoot is literally nowhere to be seen
i've never really seen a valid criticism about luggage lad's administration practices.
he put a reasonable amount of effort in the site without making any profit or doing shady shit like selling user data. there's even a native extension that's not terribly necessary.
What really happened is that moot took the openly available futaba and whined to MVB until he translated and got it running for him.
Contrary to what moot claims nowadays, he said he made 4chan first for easy access to porn. He's also the biggest internet diva bitch you'll ever see - every time he's show up on IRC he'd bitch and whine nonstop, permaban anyone who disagreed/told him to stfu/said anything that moot disliked and then stormed off when he realized people would just stop talking until he left instead of kissing his ass like /b/.
>>61091861
>mods
He took japanese code and put some Anonymous##devs on it.
>>61093316
He still DJs.
>>61093316
kek that kid.
>>61094917
Also mad weed kiddie as you do.
The biggest thing I miss from older 4chan days is when staff were a regular part of it.
Not just MODS=FAGS.
Of course, that only came about because the forced anonymous faggotry on /b/ that turned it from a green-headed failure in to a fucking movement.
Thanks moot, you killed the site by listening to a troll.
wasn't most stuff done by anon#developer (whoever that is)?
hiro took down the Hackerone program after he took over, anyone ever noticed that
>>61092107
wtf wtf wtf you better being trolling
>>61091861
How the hell did the Japanese code this site?
