You should run all your ordinary everyday tasks as an unprivileged user, especially things like web browsing. But you should and must have the ability to gain superuser permissions somehow (and some way to drop them when you're finished). It's not acceptable for the person who owns the device to be prevented from doing that by the device maker. If you can't get root at all, ever, the thing isn't yours in any meaningful sense of the word.
