Is it a meme degree like CS or is it actually good?
>>
Ask /sci/ and get bullied.
>>
Surely better than Computer Information Systems.

Better option is to start the degree, then drop out. You'll get major hiring points among startups, who look for these kind of kids. The zuckerberg meme.
>>
>>61075548
Someone ready asked there and they seem to despise CS and CE so they wont be of much help
>>
>>61075718
Only do this if you can get into a top 10 school
>>
>>61075727
>/sci/ is one person
They're as retarded about sciences as /dpt/ is about programming.
>>
where I study CE is the real meme, only people who think they will all be "big bosses" go for it, or others who didn't do their research enough to know how lacking their curriculum is
>>
>>61075296
It's like EE and CS fucked and had a kid. You'll get a lot of the EE curriculum (circuits and signals) but without the physics, and some of the lower/mid-level CS stuff (data structures, architecture). From what I hear the market for it is good at the moment, but it's also pretty new.

>It's like EE and CS fucked and had a kid.
This sums up my current experiences as a CSandE student. It's like a clusterfuck of different approaches.
>>
At my college it had the highest dropout rate of all specialisations. In pure EE or pure CS topics tend to bleed into each other, so you can learn something and it will turn out to overlap with something else from another perspective, so the curriculum as a whole sort of reinforces itself. Whereas for CE you just gets bits and pieces in isolation without the stuff that pulls it all together.
>>
>>61075845
>Without the physics
Not necessarily true, majoring in CE and I had to take electric fields and other shit like that.
>>
>>61075296
where do you live and what school?

This is important because at some institutions, computer science is a complete joke and is more closer to an applied math degree. At others, engineering will be mainly general engineering muck with very few meaningful electives
>>
>>61075296
My dad was a Computer Engineer in the 90's and made mad cash back then.

I'm not quite sure if it's a good degree nowadays tho.
>>
CE is good if you want to become a code monkey.

t. code monkey
>>
>>61075296
I'm a senior in CmpE and I'm enjoying it so far. If you like low level programming or digital circuits at all then it's good. I've heard it really depends on the school though.

>>61076517
Same for me but there is definitely much less Physics than the EE students.
>>
>>61075296
Yes.
>>
>>61075296
I went the Automation engineer route instead of Comp Eng, hope I didn't fuck up.
>>
OP: For the people asking about which country/school
Middle east shithole which probably means I'm fucked and the curriculum is shit
>>
>>61075296
CE is the academic major that studies computers using math, physics, and EE. CS is for people too weak to pass advanced math or physics courses. Compare:

>>CS
>1st year
Bullshit java/OO coding class
Bullshit data structures class
Piss easy calculus classes
Piss easy matrix algebra class
[If you're lucky] physics I&II for non-science majors

>2nd year
Watered down "computer architecture" class
Pompous software engineering class
Pathetic discrete "math" class
Watered down "probability" class
Crash course on formal languages and automata

>3rd year
Pathetic algorithms course
Watered down computability and complexity theory course
Laughable networks course
Laughable database course
Crash course on various programing languages

>4th year
Laughable computer security course
[If you're lucky] an Operating Systems class
[If you're lucky] a Compilers class
Horseshit AI with trivial machine learning
5-10 student team Capstone with one dude doing all the work
and all the bullshit easy electives you want

>>CE/ECE/EE
>1st year
C++/C Coding class
C++/C Data Structures and Algorithm
Easy vector calculus
Piss easy matrix algebra class
Ordinary Differential Equations
Physics I&II
Chem I&II

>2nd year
PDEs, Complex Variables, or Advanced Engineering Mathematics [which is half of each]
Probability and Random Processes
Numerical Analysis
Signal and System Analysis
Circuits
Physics III
Digital Logic
An actual Computer Architecture class

>3rd year
Electronics I&II
Communication Systems
Digital Signal Processing
[if CE or ECE] Discrete Math with Coding and Information Theory
[if EE or ECE] Control Theory
[if EE] Electromagnetics
[if CE] Operation Systems
[if CE] Digital System Design
[if CE] Embedded Systems

>4th year
Capstone where everyone actually does shit
[if you're unlucky] Ethics
Electives [for CE]:
Compilers
Computer Vision
Computer Graphics
VLSI Design
Networks
Cryptography
Reverse Engineering
Information Theory
Convex Optimization
Distributed Computing
among others
