Faster IPC, open source kernel and software, legit package managers, larger variety of compilers and editors, selectable/optional GUI. Why aren't you using Linux, OP? Games not accessible? Please don't throw a low effort response like "I have a life/job/brain" or "I'm not autistic/down/retarded" I unironically want to know why you stick to Windows when there is clearly a superior way to use your computer.

If it's too hard to understand, let me use an analogy.
A car enthusiast doesn't drive a toyota yaris. Yeah it works for 99% of your car needs, but noone cares. No matter how hard you try to pretend otherwise and convince your friends it's still a bland shitbox for car-illiterate people aka women.

Too lazy to learn all this Linux shit.

That's not true, microsoft's aggressive and monopolistic tactics in the early 2000's are why windows is a thing now.

There used to be major linux support at the heardware level until microsoft started making it part of their OEM arrangement to only support Windows.

Imports are notiously expensive in maintenance because of the price of spares, and you can fix old iron with a welder and a grinder most of the fucking time.

See, you're as much clueless on operating systems as you are on cars. You're the one who didn't think it through.
>>

I'm going to correct you here: European imports are expensive to maintain (being a euro car guy, I know this first hand). Japanese and Korean imports are very cheap to maintain.

-gaming is a profitable market overall.
-you grow up on windows BECAUSE of games, because what else would male kids do? And then, all you know as a grown up is windows so you stick to it cause you're too lazy or impatient to learn a different OS.
-males are dominant in relationships so women will use whatever their men use, which is windows. They overall don't care. For example, my gf uses GNU.

Yeah, gamers are in minority but they're the relevant minority (kids). What you grow up using is in most cases what you'll continue to use.

I wanted to use Linux. The whole idea appealed to me. Not having to pirate Windows and give up my privacy and all that.

Every distro requires complicated commands that most of us won't fuck with. Life doesn't have to be that hard. If the whole Linux dev communtiy actually got together on something they could probably dethrone Windows. It should've happened by now but they're too busy being elitists. They're waiting for Linux to be worth something to all us plebs, but they're unwilling to "dumb" it down. I'm hoping some distro becomes usable before 7 support ends, but I'm not holding my breath.

3 digit IQ people need a week at most to be comfortable with Linux, sadly this doesn't apply to the lesser individuals.
After all this time, the time wasted fixing Linux is quite a lot less than the time needed to maintain a Windows installation, plus the whole Windows 10 fiasco with the forced updates/restarts.

Because unless you need something that's Windows exclusive or just works better on Windows, then you gain absolutely nothing by using Windows. In fact you get worse performance, have to pay $100 for a license AND get spied on to boot.

For basic computing Windows doesn't really add anything of value for the average user. They'd be just as well off using Ubuntu or Fedora or whatever flavor you like.

>Your pet OS will never be user friendly
But it is. We simply have different preferences. Most Linux users don't want a Windows-like experience. I mainly use Linux, but I do have two other computers with Windows 10 and MacOS. I really see no benefit to having the other two systems around though. Think about it, MacOS has Brew, Windows 10 has that Ubuntu bullshit. Why are they implementing Linux features? It's because Linux is great. Why not take advantage of what it has to offer?
>>
>>61074577
Because its easier to use than Windows and doesn't cuck your hardware.
>>
>>61076298
The untermensch wasn't complaining about features, he was literally saying Loonix too hard, keep us broda down.
It's only another case of entitlement trying to blame his own shortcomings on others, it's like a kid saying math sucks because it's too hard and expecting to be taken seriously.
>>
>>61076382
Math is hard though so it isn't a good comparison, Linux is easy.

Let's face it. Besides programming and gaming you don't even know why people would even use a computer. This says more about the average linux user than normal people. All you do yourself is browse, write some shitty code if you actually know how, and desperately try to get some games to work through Wine.

This is a close analogy, but, it's still not completely true. It seems to me that the real issue lies in the ridiculous idea that a person who is new to Linux, needs to learn all of the terminal commands and tools. So, to expand upon your analogy, I would say this : Its more like someone complaining that they can't work a coffee machine because they are too lazy to read the instructions because they think it would require them to understand Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Physics. It's simply not true. Correct?

You misunderstood. ( Looking back, I wasn't that clear.) What I'm saying is new users fall victim to this strange assumption that they need to understand the whole Linux universe before they start using it. They don't understand that they can get by with maybe a dozen commands at most in the begining and expand that as their needs grow. Everyday tasks require no more effort than any other OS, if you choose to use your system like a granny.

Meanwhile we are stuck using x86 and derivatives to maintain backwards compatibility with ancient Windows systems written in nonportable x86 assembly language

bollocks. majority of windows users are business users. although their share would definitely drop, windows would still have the majority by far

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

i thought linux fags would know enough about computers to understand that there is no upkeep to a windows system unless you're functionally retarded. I'm using built in windows defender and everything works perfectly.

Fuck off /v/.

I enjoy the ability to have my OS do stuff for me.

Syncing stuff
Splitting windows for work
Telling me what's new
Being very resilient (If DE or WM fails, everything can be done from a command line)

Using Windows via SSH is bullshit out of the box.

because it takes for fucking ever for new shit to be validated by quality departments and stuff, especially if you have to deal with fda and other government inspections. windows is so damn bloated because so many companies have too many barriers to upgrading things

Hackintosh is a pain on some systems. Most people don't like adware either.

At ~€150, what kind of Mac are you going to find? Used, abused, budget macs here in the states go for no less than $500, and that's one with serious wear and tear.

The real strength is for servers. How many of the top 500 supercomputers run windows ?

How many of the top 100 websites are served from windows servers ?

This is so true Valve ported the Source engine in months and made a working build of Left 4 Dead.

This thread seems good as any to ask. If what I am seeking is privacy or anonymity, it's worth to use Linux?

This is the only reason that would matter to me.

privacy and anonymity from who exactly?

Not wrong for Europe though.
New US cars are fucking terrible, but older vehicles were built like tanks and the parts or very easy to come by or machine new.
Japanese parts on the other hand cost an arm and a leg and require more frequent replacement (just like Euro cars and modern US cars)
But for Europe, the euro cars are local and the parts cheap and plentiful.

In Australia it's different again due to the proximity to Japan, most everything Japanese is cheap to buy and parts are available everywhere (and lots of parts are shared across many models) US is also cheap to buy since we built local versions of most of the American muscle drivetrains (Chrysler, Ford and GM all had plants here - GM is still here for another month only)
Euro cars in Australia are viewed as cars that break down often are very costly to buy parts for and are typically designed in the worst ways possible which makes labor costs very high.

In general. If I don't want my information leaking for third parties, like sites or programs which I use on my desktop or to the OS itself. I want to know if Linux tracks me as much as windows.
