In the Netherlands, you get a few exams on the computer if you are dyslexic. We get a laptop with one of these things and they are really nice if you need to use them on a tiny table which also has the test on it*(in paper form)
>>
>>61071367
Get one of those thinkpad x series without the trackpad so you're forced to use it and you'll get kinda pissy when you realize how much room is wasted on trackpads
>>
>>61071411
I'm confused
is it IBM or Lenovo now?

>>61071409
any tips on how to adjust to this clit mouse?
>>
>>61071387
the D series were comfy as fuck. I had 2 D600s, a 610, and 630 10-15 years ago. everything but the 630 was lost to time :( but I still use the 630 cuz it has a serial port.
Nothing more vaporwave than jacking in to a switch with a Win2k laptop to configure it...
>>
>>61071453
Keep using it
>>
>>61071453
IBM just makes servers now, Lenovo makes the laptops that used to be made by IBM. So you'll find IBM (older) and Lenovo (newer) laptops.
>>

I certainly don't ever since I bought my 2011 256gb MacBook Air - superior feel of feel of glass / metal multitouch touchpad - how are you even arguing about this bullshit 6 years later - and shut up I just run Devuan on my superior hardware

Hey I am former thinkpad and lattitude owner here and unless you are trying to save extreme real-estate with clits onlylike the GPD WIN get the fuck over it and even they didn't get t right

Trackpoint is pretty good with it's good balance speed/acceleration without tapping place to place. As for me, TP is my only love. My first laptop, an old Portege 4010, has an two scrolling buttons in addition to it, and was good entry point to trackpoint world. Now, with Compaq 2510p, i simple remapped an touchpad buttons to work as scroll wheel. Also, the classic dome is the best cap, meow.

People who use a keyboard more than a mouse.

It's perfectly placed to be manipulated while keeping your hands still on the home row. The accuracy is low but this isn't a fucking gaming mouse, it's there so you can move the cursor and interact with GUI elements.

It's way more accurate than a trackpad, though.

Doing CAD work with a trackpad is suffering, with a trackpoint it's downright comfy.

>it's so clumsy
Explain? You move your finger from the F or J key onto the nib and you push it in the direction you want to move the cursor. Gentle push for slow pixel-accurate movement, medium push for faster GUI-element-accurate movement, hard push to fly over to the other side of the display.

You can't get the pixel-perfect-50ms-response-time you might get with a well-calibrated mouse, but this is not a gaming device, it's an office device.
>>
>>61072963
>need to be different
literally nobody is aware I even use a clit mouse except people who complain about them on /g/

This isn't a haircut or clothes or a car or even a laptop that everybody around you can see. It's a small nib at the center of your keyboard that nobody would notice unless you explicitly point it out. Mine is even colored black to be more unassuming.
>>
It's superior to both trackpads no matter the brand and especially having to carry a separate mouse for your mobile device.

While 10 pieces for $4 is nominally expensive for tiny pieces of rubber, the lot will last you for years. And if you want you can buy by the 1000 instead...
>>
>>61073062
I'd imagine office devices would use something less unwieldy...
I don't know, I just never grew up with laptops with clit mice so I don't see the need for one now

>1,000 piece lot
Of the classic domes? Sign me the heck up; where can I find em?
>>
>>61073221
>unwieldy
I guess you missed the "explain" part. I didn't ask for another synonym for "clumsy" (though "unwieldy" would get you a higher mark in a middle-school pop quiz, so congrats.)

- If you've used one, what are the difficulties you've experienced?
- If you haven't used one, what do you imagine are the difficulties you'd experience?

I -explained- to you why it's easy to use: placement, fine control. If you find it too hard to push around, you can set the sensitivity higher.

Use the questions I've provided to -explain- why it's "clumsy" or "unwieldy".

Or don't, it's not like anybody is going to take your shitty unsubstantiated opinion seriously.
>>
>>61071329
As someone who now does 90% of work on the keyboard, this is a lovely way to keep my hands on the keyboard at all times. Buying a T420 just for this and a small hardware upgrade.

>>
>>61073229
Fake ones, obviously. The originals sell at smaller lots - 3, 10, 20, 50.

A quick eBay search turns up lot of 100 fakes for $6. I bought 10 originals for $4. You can tell the difference in quality, but if you're so eager to get 1000 then you probably don't care.

>>
>>61073385
If it's for your employer why the fuck do you care? Get 10 lots of 100 originals for $120.

If it's for you, why the fuck do you need 1000? You'll lose more of them than you'll get to use.
>>
>>61073259
I don't know what else I have to explain to you. you already know how inaccurate it is compared to a mouse or even a trackpad
and it surely doesn't help how small it is

so what if you have your hands on the keyboard all day
would it kill you to switch your hand to the mouse for a split second?
it's an unnecessary thing in my opinion
>>
>>61071329
I thought people were trolling or memeing when they said a trackpoint is better than a mouse, but when I bought a Thinkpad I found it way more comfortable than the touchpad, and then I realised not having to move your hands away from the keyboard is the best thing ever
people who hate it probably just never used it, or used some crippled version on a Dell or HP with no middle button, which makes it pretty much useless
>>
>>61073413
Listen I'm a huge fucking faggot and I'll more than likely make a post about it here so everyone can laugh at me for buying 1,000 trackpoint caps. But you're right, I should go for quality.
>>
>>61073416
>how inaccurate it is compared to a mouse or even a trackpad
Slightly less accurate. You'll note that "slightly less accurate" is not the same as "unwieldy" or "clumsy". For the sake of argument let's say it takes TWO SECONDS to click a button with a trackpoint and ONE SECOND with a mouse. If you spend all your day mousing, then this is a significant difference. If you spend all your day typing, then this difference is negligible and in fact the time and effort (and focus) you save by not having to take your hands off the keyboard increases your productivity. This is the opposite of "clumsy" or "unwieldy", it actually increases your productivity.

If you're a mouse-pusher and all you do is vidya, then yes, trackpoints suck for you.
>>
>>61073416
>you already know how inaccurate it is compared to a mouse or even a trackpad
and it surely doesn't help how small it is

Not him but I find Trackpoint's much more comfortable and accurate then any trackpad. Granted my first laptop was a 600E and all it had was the clit so maybe it is just what I am accustomed too.
>>
>>61073482
>You'll note that "slightly less accurate" is not the same as "unwieldy" or "clumsy"

>>
>>61071718
Yes thinkpads haven't been good or even held up to their own memes for many years now
They're riding off of the business Thinkpad name which only became special because of IBMs manufacturing in the first place, it's the same kind of build quality and cooling you'd expect from any consumer laptop
>>
>>61074707
they do look a brick still though...
>>
>>61074238
i plan on using mine as a serial terminal(or securebox) long in to the future. no ME, decent hardware, cheap batteries, 802.11 ABGN, a TPM, and smartcard support.

For a while i also ran Slackware on it, and the driver support was great. if anyone's looking for an enterprise tier laptop that doesnt mind using a 32bit core2duo, this is your laptop.

Just for scrolling it's absolutely amazing - much better than a scroll wheel or lol swiping your fingers up and down on a track pad.
>>
>>61071718
>do ThinkPads suck these days?

Old Thinkpads:
- Terrible screens.
- Poor battery life.
- Heavy as fuck.
- Durable.

New Thinkpads:
- Fantastic screens.
- Awesome battery life.
- Not as light as consumer crap, but certainly not heavy.
- Just as durable as old Thinkpads.

But of course /g/ will hate on the new "Chinkpads" because it doesn't have the right brand name.

This is objectively true but unless it's ring -1 shit (like Intel AMT) it's manageable. If you're SERIOUSLY worried about ring -1 exploits you should use an open-hardware laptop.
>not as sturdy as an old thinkpad
Since this can be verified or falsified through objective measurements, I'd like to see some. Otherwise it's just unsubstantiated. I've seen IBM ThinkPads break down after a few months and I've seen Dells last for decades. Anecdotal evidence doesn't matter.
