What should I be looking for in/for routers and lan adapters to minimize lag in games?

Well the way to have the lowest possible latency is to use wired ethernet. Wireless always adds a bit of latency, but it's usually not very significant. The main source of problems is too many devices trying to talk at once - seen in homes with lots of devices yammering on one network, or in apartment blocks with lots of overlapping networks. Other than that any router that's good in general will be good for gaming, you don't need special Razer-grade equipment.

Right, but in terms of choosing which compenents to accomplish this, such as what model router, or, when connecting game consoles, what ethernet/lan adapters, what should I be checking to make sure it's as low latency as possible relative to other models

Well, here's the thing: I opted to get SMR from APKMirror, was able to install it and play normally, but it still needed for me to pay.
I made some research and found this kind of method to crack the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL8zyUN1AeQ
While it shows it works, I'm VERY doubtful it's safe, especially with how you need to install third party garbage apps just for some way to bypass the purchase screen.
Not only would I love to confirm if this is actually safe, but I would also like to be sure if that's really how you pirate .apk files.

There's nothing to check really. As long as you're sticking to ethernet and avoiding wifi, pretty much anything works well. Wifi is where shit gets wonky. You probably want to look up the instructions for port forwarding a given model before you buy it, so you can be sure there's no weirdness. Also if you're competing with a lot of other traffic/torrents/etc on the network, you might want something you can flash LEDE/OpenWRT on, so you can minimize bufferbloat. That takes a little more savvy than average though.

Yeah no. I'd bet 10 to 1 it's got malware in it. That's why most pirated software is released. The question is how capable it is of fucking up your device, and how much you care. You should care, btw. There's plenty of reasons why having that shit nested in your phone is terrible.

What if I told you even a 1% difference matters because I play games competitively and go out to major regional tournaments and everything, and I really need that as minimal lag experience as possible?

Wouldn't just making sure your ISP/router supports a high bandwidth accomplish this?

>Wouldn't just making sure your ISP/router supports a high bandwidth accomplish this?

No, that's not really what bufferbloat is about. It's possible to not be fully saturating your internet connection and still see a big latency increase. It has to do with how shitty most queing is. You can go to dslreports.com/speedtest, switch on the HD bufferbloat test and get an idea if there's a problem. I'd run it a few times, especially when your network is busiest.

Beyond that kind of software feature (QOS, port forwarding, etc), there's basically no difference between wired routers. The thing that drives sales is wireless. Otherwise you could run latency tests and not be able to tell if you were using the latest $200 router, or a 10 year old unit for $20. You just need gigiabit ethernet, and ideally a separate modem from your router, as combo units (gateways) tend to be flaky. Make sure if your modem has router capabilities you disable them.

If you're competitive then get a dedicated connection and wire directly into the modem. If it's that important to you then pay for it. You don't need a fast connection either.

>suddenly, HDMI audio from my GPU is crackling
Don't know what to do here boys. I've Googled it, I've tried all the shit to "reduce the latency", I've tried switching PCI-E ports, I've tried different HDMI ports, other devices have no problem with HDMI audio to the TV, running a stereo audio cable tot he TV has no crackling. So I know it's the GPU causing the problem. It worked fine for literally years, but now suddenly it just wants to fuck me all up. Can't replicate it well, either. Some days the audio is fine, some days it's not. I'm saying, the fucking issue is actually smart enough to say "I don't feel like working today" because even a computer restart doesn't fix it. The only thing I can think of that would be consistent through a restart is that the GPU is still hot, but like I said, this has never been an issue before and I can't see any overheating problems or anything.

I remember reading about how some Android browsers like UC and Dolphin make use of the stock browser webkit or webview or something like that. The point is the rendering is done by stock android components. I've had a lot of problems with DD-WRT. The routers I've used were never completely compatible and a lot of it's features didn't always work in the beta versions.

I've since switched to pfSense and it's night and day compared to DD-WRT. Everything works and works extremely well. pfSense does require x86 hardware though, so you'll either need to re-purpose an old desktop or pickup a relatively expensive x86 router.

How can I tell if GCC is compiling my program into assembly that includes/uses the most efficient SIMD instructions it can?

I'm writing a vector class for the purposes of learning how to implement SIMD, where I use an std::array of doubles to store the x,y,z,w values.
I wrote a simple test program that constructs this vector and adds 10 to it, then I generated the assembly file using the -s flag.

What I expect to see is some SSE instructions. I do see some from SSE2, but these are instructions that process one double value, instead of processing multiple values. As far as I know, GCC compiles to this by default if the host machine supports SSE2.

Can anyone help me out, or at least link me to resources that can help me both implement and verify this? I find that most people talk about implementing it, not verifying it. I've currently also tried using the omp simd pragma, which seemed to have no impact on my program.

>I was reading though that a client couldn't call php they had to use ajax or jsquery
Right, the you use php to code server side applications that web browsers and other API consumers talk to using HTTP methods. Web browsers run javascript that can also make calls to the server application over http. This is just due to browsers standardizing on javascript as a scripting language for whatever reason.

>>61067775

this anon's >>61067775 answer is not correct

in general:
switches are layer 2 forwarding devices, and provide physical connectivity. they understand hardware (MAC) addresses but do not understand IP

routers are layer 3 forwarding devices. Most consumer devices like pic related integrate the functionality of a switch along with a cpu element that runs some kind of configurable gui software on a web interface

in laymans terms switches understand MAC addresses and routers understand ip addresses

however when you move on to higher pricing tiers (think Cisco Nexus 9k, Mellanox, Acton, etc) the terms 'switch' and 'router' are used interchangeably because they devices they sell do both. these are the boxes you see on the top of a rack with 40x10G ports. If you buy one of these for your home you will never need anything else. But the cheap ones cost $20,000 as they are intended for use in datacenters and you generally need a manual or industry experience to configure them. i.e. you don't want one of these, i just mention them for completeness.

at the consumer level 'router' means access point which is L3 + L2 converged device, typically with wifi, whereas 'switch' means a dumb l2 device that just connects shit together. you can connect a switch to the port on the access point and effectively increase the # of ports on the router.

Web scraping, at various levels of sophistication.

Does tumblr do an infinite scroll thing? Can you paginate?

I usually classify web scraping into 4 categories:

>absolutely trivial
All content in one static HTML page. You can probably almost handle this with grep, tr, awk, and xargs. But I would probably recommend using beautifulsoup or nokogiri.

>annoying
Desired content is paginated, but pagination happens in GET parameters. Definitely use beautifulsoup or nokogiri, you want a real scripting language here to handle navigating pages.

>web 5.0 AIDS
Site uses js-based lazy loading or infinite scroll. If their js for loading content is only lightly obfuscated or otherwise easily readable/reversible, consider trying to just download the content like that yourself by mimicing the AJAX calls. If their js is heavily obfuscated, consider using phantomjs or committing ritual suicide.

>pajeet-tier garbage
Site uses POST parameters or cookies or other stupid bullshit to do pagination. You should refuse to scrape these sites just so you don't give them page hits.

That said, there's probably a browser extension or something that will get you 99% of the way there because it can just scrape IMG tags off the DOM. But that's less fun and involved rolling the dice on a ton of shitty shady chrome extensions.

everything looks fine on the vm side. I would look at Virtualbox network settings and check for correctness.

you seem somewhat unfamiliar with linux networking so i would hazard a guess that the problem might not be connectivity and might instead be dns. if `ping 8.8.8.8` succeeds than that's the problem.

good luck

If the second router has a better antenna than the devices you're planning to use. But routers tend to have the hardest time sending/receiving signal vertically, so that might hinder your efforts. If there is high interference in the area then it's possible that you would see an improvement from having the devices not compete with each other, but I wouldn't assume that's the case.
>>
>>61070203
yeah your resolv.conf is completely fucked

ignore the warning message and change the contents to

nameserver 8.8.8.8

if you can hit google after that, do an apt update and then install dnsmasq and then reboot the vm and see if everything works

you can't install dnsmasq right now because apt needs to be able to resolve domains which needs a working resolvconf

I've heard that cpu temp reports are different from true temp from ryzen chips. Is it just a cpu, or your gpu as well?
If both, you might have an airflow problem.
Msi command center lets you adjust voltage to cpu and ram among similar things through software, but the settings you place have to be redone after every boot because it's not bios. The only worthwhile msi software is the "gaming app" because you can adjust the rgb lighting on msi products. It also has a button that forces your gpu fans to spin to 100% for about 15 seconds for fuck knows why.

I'm trying to learn how to code, I have learnt some some c++, and wanted to challenge myself, so I tried codewars. The first question is:
The code does not execute properly. Try to figure out why.
int multiply(int a, int b)
{
a * b;
}

So, obviously that functions doesn't return anything, and there is no mai, so I wrote:
using namespace std;
int multiply(int a, int b)
{
return a * b;
}
int main()
{
return 0;
}

So, I was an error about how I didn't call multiply(), but I didn't know what to pass as the parameters, so I left it like this, instead I got:
-isystem /runner/frameworks/cpp error: conflicting types for 'main'
int main(int argc, const char *argv[])
^
note: previous definition is here
int main()
^
1 error generated.

And, uh, wtf? Searching the error, it seems like it's related to C. I know the lenguages are similar, but I haven't actually read anything on C, and int main() works in the code snipets I have made, so what is this thing? Also, main(void) produces essentially the same thing.

Thanks, pls no bully.

I think they take your snippet and wrap it in a main etc (from runner/framework), so just fix multiply and try leaving it at that.

Otherwise try changing the function definiton of main to be the same as theirs.

so try to launch steam tonight, it runs steam.exe steamservice.exe steamwebhelper.exe. nothing appears to happen. a couple minutes later (where it normally takes less than maybe 30 seconds tops) i see the "Connecting Steam account: [username]" window, then all the process just disappear and nothing happens.
i tried deleting everything in my steam folder except /steamapps /userdata Steam.exe and it seemed like it was updating fine, then asked me to log in and i had to reset my password etc, but no matter what it still just basically crashes without error message after that "Connecting Steam account..." window. launching in safe mode with networking didn't work.
what i CAN do is disable my wifi, try to launch, it says can't launch cause offline, and i can launch in offline mode. but when i try to go back to online mode it just won't even open up the client.

Log in on your laptop with dhcp, got to you nework settings and grab the ip, subnet and gateway. Then tell you router to join up with a static ip with those details.

Hey /g/

I'm used to HDMIs and DisplayPorts so I feel like I'm over-complicating this.

My in-laws got a new computer yet need a new display cable. The monitor (Pic related) has a VGA and a DVI output and the computer itself only has a Dual-DVI output. The detail on the computer says (DMS-59)

What cable should I buy?

Feel free to call me retarded if I'm over-complicating this. I haven't touched VGA/DVIs in ages.

I'm currently using the router that was given to me by the provider. Is it agood idea to replace it with my own? Are there any recommendations?
>>
>>61075702
Can't you use a single DVI output? I think dual DVI just means 2 DVI ports where one carries sound and the other doesn't.
>>
>>61075702
>>61075817
This isn't what's going on here at all. What this is is single-link DVI vs dual-link DVI. Think of it like PCI-E x1 vs x2. Dual-link has more bandwidth and can support a higher-resolution monitor. It's common for video cards with two DVI ports to have one of them be dual-link and one be only single-link, to cut costs. Usually it's not a problem, since single-link has enough bandwidth to drive a 1920x1080 monitor at 60hz.

Now, the DVI port in your pic is DVI-D dual-link. DVI-D means that it doesn't have the extra pins that provide an analog signal. DVI-I has those pins. If you've ever seen little DVI-to-VGA adapters, that's how they work. A cable with analog pins in it won't fit, though I'm not sure if many DVI cables come with them - people usually used the analog pins for VGA adapters.

So you want a DVI-D cable. Dual or single link. You're unlikely to need dual-link, unless your in-laws have a bigger-than-1080p monitor, but if that's what you dig up, it'll work.

No flavor of DVI carries sound, btw,

Whats up with over-provisioning and using an SSD as a cache drive? Apparently dedicating a certain percentage of space on the drive will improve longevity? Also, I get that dedicating an SSD as a cache drive for an HDD would be a huge benefit, but what about using an SSD as a cache drive for another SSD?
Specifically, I'm thinking about using an mSATA SSD as a cache drive for my primary SSD in my x220, both drives over-provisioned at a certain percentage. The mSATA would be capped at SATA II though, is there any real benefit to doing this? I deal with very large files quite often so if there's any real benefit to this I'd like to take advantage to it.

Because every transaction has to be verified on the network where every node is aware of which coins are owned by which addresses and thus are aware of any user's trying to make illegitimate transactions and won't verify them. It's basically a network where faking transactions isn't possible and doesn't need a central authority (individual, company, or group) to be in control of the verification process since every node is doing this constantly.

You could also do this if you could break the crypto primitives that the coin uses. Bitcoin uses SHA256 IIRC, so if you could reverse SHA256, find collisions efficiently, etc, you could have the cheat code you're asking about.

This is, so far as is currently known, impossible.
>>
>>61076752

>over-provisioning

Say you have a 250GB SSD which will have roughly 10-15GB of space (it's actually a 256GB device) set aside for a "safe" area to store data when cells get to a wear point of failure, the "safe" area is like a fall over spot sorta like hard drives have a protected area to remap bad sectors - over-provisioning is the same idea for SSDs.

Now what that means is over the lifetime of the SSD if you did end up wearing out 10-15GB of cells that were "remapped" to the protected over-provisioned area then the drive would start reporting failures because it has nothing more it can do.

Some drives and the software for them like Samsung Magician can and do allow the end user to increase the amount of over-provisioning which theoretically should provide even longer lifespans of the entire SSD depending on usage. I have a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB that I recently over-provisioned an additional 16GB so I've got about 215GB useful space but at least I know it's not going to die anytime soon.
