I'm using a 2015 macbook pro and compared to my 2011 macbook pro 4chan threads and catalogs load super fast.
Is this just because of the CPU?

It's because newer mac books use more sophisticated
rubber and glue.
4chan just got fatter with more scripting and other trash. So yeah, a faster CPU makes up for it.
I checked specs for each.
2015 MBP:
2.8 i7, 4 cores, 256 KB L2, 6 MB L3
16 GB ram 1600 mhz
SSD
2011 MBP:
2.8 i7, 2 cores, 256 KB L2, 4 MB L3
8 GB ram 1333 mhz

Does that really impact page rendering that much?

Is it the cores?

Why would that impact 4chan responsiveness?

Call me when you can run a hackintosh laptop pajeet.

Something unrelated like network or just placebo.
Catalog/threads load pretty much instantly for me on an old socket 478 pentium 4 machine with 2GB of RAM running XP and Firefox. There's no way there's an appreciable difference between 2011 and 2015 macbooks. They're both complete overkill for the task.

I'm doing it side by side.
Hmm maybe it's a browser plugin(s). Only have ublock running on 2015.
2011 has noticible sluggishness when loading larger threads and catalog.
Or 2011 is fucked some other way.

For shits and giggles I just tested a couple of retro rigs.
1GHz PIII 512MB & GigE w/ Win98SE & Firefox 10.0.12/KernelEx
Result: Formatting is janky but /retro/ loaded in 2-3 seconds.
133MHz Pentium 64MB & 100Mbit w/ WfW 3.11 & Opera 3.62
Result: Formatting is fucked, no skin and nothing dynamic works. Also it won't load more than the first few screens worth of /retro/ before giving up on the rest. Takes just over 8 seconds to load what it manages to.
133MHz Pentium again, but this time DOS & Arachne
Result: Formatting somewhat works but nothing dynamic does. Loads and seems to retain the entire html of /retro/ in about one second but only loads the assets currently on screen, so it refreshes each time you scroll up or down. Only takes a fraction of a second each time though.
Nothing to see here.

A 2011 Thinkpad is the fastest way to load 4chan threads.
