hi /g/uys. Dell Latitude D620 here
I think I found my new love. Xubuntu runs just as fast as Lubuntu, but it actually has taste
gonna set up dual-boot with Windows 7 in a bit, after fucking around with it some more
what distro do you use?

xfce is much better than lxde, but make sure you don't have screen tearing (because xfce, lxde and mate usually do). Open the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RvIbVmCOxg, if you see the lines tearing like this (pic related) then do the following:
1. open the terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and paste this "sudo apt install compton".
2. go to settings->session and startup->application autostart, here select "add". paste the following into the command box "compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --vsync opengl-swc", name it whatever you want and hit OK.
3. go to settings->window manager tweaks->compositor, disable the display compositing. after doing this reboot your PC.

thanks bru. yeah there are jitters here and there, but nothing like the slideshows on Windows 7
can't figure out for the life of me why this thing jitters so much on Windows. this laptop has the same specs as my Asus A8F, yet that ran 7 just fine
I should do this after I've installed Xubuntu though, right?
still running from USB

>your hdd will fail
I'm sure it will... maybe sooner than I expect
so I'll beat this thing to the ground
I got this as a hand-me-down from my uncle so I don't have much choice with my rigs

Yes, after it's installed. But only if you get tearing like in the pic. Make sure to test it in fullscreen.
>>61057339
strange...
I'm at the installation menu now and I'm seriously considering just ditching Windows altogether
is there anything important I'll lose by getting rid of Windows?
>>61057856
No. There are alternatives to any software, example KolourPaint which is actually much better and more stable than paint on windows.
>>61057914
okay
I think I'm ready
I'll just reshrink my volume back first
>>61057222
Thank you, I've had compton installed forever but still got some minimal screen tearing. For some reason paint on overlay still gives me some tearing but removing it works fine.
