Freenas pissed me off by releasing corral and then backpedaling once people migrated it and made it a "technology preview".
What should I use instead of freenas?

had the exact same issue. i decided not to be an idiot and keep using freenas 11 because it's very stable and battle tested. corral was jkh's brain child and it was DOA, he's already left the company and his whole team is now focused on the main 9.10 train, which has now become 11.
use freenas, it's good. I even run vm's on it for Docker with iohyve. browse the forums for tutorials on how to do that

Ubuntu + ZFS + everything you can install from the much larger repos.
Yes the FreeNAS GUI is awesome and it's easy to install, the large Ubuntu repos outweigh all that.
