There are plenty of rational people who are still young with good hearing that engage in audiophilia, but most of them have limited budgets and also realize the stupidity in spendings tens of thousands on 2 channel playback gear, class A stereo amps, tube gear, and thousand dollar headphones.

The old-wrinkly fucks that buy 300b tube amps and 10,000 single full range driver speakers to listen to bit band and the doors are also the most vocal against technological advances. They refuse to accept the fact your average hypex class D amp or crown drivecore amp is more linear with less disortion and more watts/voltage.

>>61026920
Burn a cd burned from flac and one from mp3s and play it on a decent system. The diff is more apparent. Plugging a phone into tape monitor (analog to analog) and streaming mp3s is even worse.

That's because, compared to a well designed Class A, it's not.
>more watts/voltage.
That's a better argument, but still not a particularly good one, there's only so much you need if you have high efficiency speakers. (And if you don't, there's no point to having a great amp in the first place)
>>
>>61029656
High efficiency does not mean "sounds better"
>>
>>61029741
Strictly speaking, no, it doesn't. But in the real world, high-efficiency speakers do actually sound better than 89 dB @ 1 watt vuvuzelas.

Dynamic range matters, and you're always going to get a better dynamic range out of a speaker that's more efficient vs one that's less efficient, with the same power handling capability.

I listen to music on my runs with $4 earbuds I get from Dollar General. When they inevitably die after six months of absorbing sweat, I go spend $4 on another pair. Audiophiles are odd ducks.
>>
>>61029656
>Well designed class A
Any amplifier that uses 90% of its power draw as heat is not well designed. Class A is a relic, class D is the future especially considering hypex and crown have solved all of the kinks involving switching power supplies.
>>
>>61030061
just get into the 5 dollar ranger and get some chinks iems, like night and day
>>
>>61029542
My chink IEMs we're $350 and do sound better than most sennheiser offerings (more linear too). That being said, the chink IEMs are more expensive.
>>
>>61030061
Some people like to enjoy listening to music. That being said, there are plenty of competent earbuds and IEMs that are cheap.
>>
>>61029805
The issue is that it's completely dependant on amplification, and if low sensitivity speakers are driven by a robust amplifier they will sound just as good and/or better than the high sensitivity designs if it measures better in other parameters.

>Any amplifier that uses 90% of its power draw as heat is not well designed.
For a start, not all Class A amps are that power-inefficient, secondly, it depends on what you value more from the amplifier - power efficiency or linearity. There is simply no getting around the fact that switching power supplies switch. That doesn't happen in a Class A circuit, and a well-designed, solid state Class A amp can be around 15% - 20% power efficient (theoretical maximum is 25%), and it will be more linear and less distorted than a Class D will ever be.
>>61030183
Until you fry the voice coils because they don't have enough power-handling to reach the same SPL as a more sensitive speaker.

There is no good argument for low-sensitivity speakers. Power efficiency is a good thing for speakers and a bad thing for amplifiers (Nothing will ever beat a well-designed, solid state Class A amp for accuracy) if you're trying to achieve the most accurate sound reproduction possible.
>if it measures better in other parameters.
So you're intent on comparing apples to oranges in the first place, it seems.
If everything else is equal, a higher-sensitivity speaker is a better option.
Especially when it comes to dynamic speakers, due to the fact that cone excursion introduces distortion in the first place, therefore the less work the speaker has to do to produce a higher output, the less distortion it'll be introducing.
>>
>>61030138
>more expensive stuff is better

>>
>>61030517
It's not always true... We all know about "Monster Cables" and other such pointless bullshit.
But yeah, if you want something that is truly high quality, it's not going to be cheap.

If you don't know malloc allocates memory on the device. It's a rather high level function. Same with new in C++.
The thing is most C++ compilers support mos parts of C. And all the popular compilers i know of just calls malloc behind new.

So it's literally just a different name for doing the same thing.
>>
>>61030164
ur such special snowflake
>>
>>61030425
Classification of amplifiers is based solely on power consumption vs heat. What the fuck are you smoking.

Also, there are plenty of reasons to trade efficiency for linearity and less distortion, considering solid state amplification means that anyone can get lots of power that's linear for cheap.

2. because we live in a small space

5. because we have no interest in music fidelity beyond the constraints of 1 through 4
